Subject: Lyr Add: WHEN THE MOON SHINES DOWN IN OLD ALASKA From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Nov 09 - 10:42 PM Not the right song, apparently, but a similar theme, from the sheet music at Indiana University (Click for the PDF file.): WHEN THE MOON SHINES DOWN IN OLD ALASKA (THEN I'LL "ASK'A" TO BE MINE) Words, Jack Frost. Music, E. Clinton Keithley. Chicago: Frank K. Root & Co., 1916 1. Northern lights are softly gleaming O'er the silent sea. Northern lights so brightly beaming, Seem to beckon me. They remind me I left behind me A girl with heart so true. Northern lights will always find me Dreaming all night through. CHORUS: When the moon shines down in old Alaska, Then I'll ask her to be mine. There are two blue eyes in old Alaska Bright as Northern lights that shine. She's a golden nugget Up in a northern clime, And I'll hold and hug it While both our hearts entwine. When the moon shines down in old Alaska, Then I'll ask her to be mine. 2. Moonlight now is softly glowing On Alaskan shore. Moonlight seems to know I'm going Back to her once more. For I love her; The stars above her Help to guide my lonesome way. Moonlight knows I'm dreaming of her And that happy day. |

Subject: Lyr Add: ESKIMO PIE (from George Jones) From: beeliner Date: 17 Nov 09 - 01:11 AM Eskimo Pie W&M George Jones (?) You can talk about your Frauleins and your pretty Geisha girls And about the one you got in the U.S.A. But I found myself a sweetheart in Alaska way up high She's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie. She's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie She lives south of the north pole and I know the reason why She's my Eskimo baby and I'll love her till I die She's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie. Crossing o'er the frozen river to a valley filled with snow I lost all my directions and I knew not where to go When a warm hand fell upon me and a voice said with a sigh I would take you to my igloo Mister I won't let you die. Well, she's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie She lives south of the north pole and I know the reason why She's my Eskimo baby and I'll love her till I die She's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie. And there came the day of parting and we had to say goodbye As I crossed back o'er the river I could think I hear her cry I know that someday I'll return, I must before I die 'Cause she's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie. Well, she's my Eskimo baby, she's my Eskimo pie She lives south of the north pole and I know the reason why She's my Eskimo baby and I'll love her till I die She's my Eskimo baby she's my Eskimo pie... |

Subject: Lyr Add: DOUKHOBOR GIRLS From: Jon Bartlett Date: 17 Nov 09 - 08:41 PM The first line of your song, Beeliner, reminded me of another song sung by the same informant: THE DOUKHOBOR GIRLS Well you've heard about the New York girls with all their flair and flash Of the frisky girls from 'Frisco you've been told And the fame of France's daughters has been heard on all the waters And the English girls are worth their weight in gold To ramble with a Scottish lassie's just like being in heaven Some like an Irish colleen on their knee But you give me a Doukhobor girl and you can have the rest If she's not a Doukhobor she's no good for me. Chorus Oh the Doukhobor girls are goad enough for me They are sweeter than the cherries on the tree They are just the dandy dears, I've been lovin' them all for years Oh the Doukhobor girls are good enough for me (Ch. #2 + 3: Now the..) Well I know a lot of fellows very fond of foreign blood They rave about that Asiatic charm Some think there's nothing finer than to love the girl from China Or to hold an Ethiopian in their arms Some fellows are never happy unless they're flirting with a Jappy Or dangling a Spaniard on their knee But you give me a Doukhobor girl and you can have the rest If she's not a Doukhobor she's no good for me. Chorus Well I have got a Doukhobor girl she is my very own She simply is the sunlight of my life And last night in the moonlight as we wandered all alone She promised me that she would be my wife And out behind the chicken-coop last night at ten to ten I never thought such happiness could be When she said she would be mine oh the utmost bliss became divine When I kissed her she says Joe you're the sheik for me. Chorus Jon Bartlett |
