Next weekend sees the return of the Braunston (Northants) Historic Narrow Boat Rally and Canal Festival. Google "Braunston Marina Events" for full details. There is entertainment on Thursday and Friday evenings before the event proper on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June.
Beer tent music in the afternoons features:-

Ramshackle - fine local folk duo (Lionel and Nick Gent) with accordions and voices.
Three Men In A Boat - another good local group, singing and playing more contempory folk material.
Jan   -   singer-songwriter includes some self-penned canal songs.
DPN+1   - quartet featuring old-time jazz, blues, original canal songs and other stuff.

The bar usually stocks good local ales from the cask. There will also be some morris dance sides attending.

Just a note to say that the John Dunmore Boogie Band will be playing
(as usual) in the beer tent on Friday evening. A very experienced local band specialising in the good-time R&B music of New Orleans, delving into the catalogue of Fats Domino, Louis Prima and many others.   Always a great start to the weekend.
Canal artist and song-writer Dusty Miller will be selling his new song book - THE UNKNOWN BOATMAN AND OTHER SONGS. Look out for his stall in the marquee housing all the other excellent waterways artists.
And on Saturday evening the annual singaround (and playaround) will be taking place in the Old Plough pub in Braunston village.

Best wishes Dave for your gig,
Unfortunately canal speed regulations (and the rain, now moored in Stone) make it impossible for me to get to Braunston in time.
Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Ian.

We have had some problems with our second canal-related CD, but will send you a copy when it is finally done.
Keep up the good work with your Songs Of Inland Waterways website.

All the best,

Dave (DPN+1)

The entire film "The Maggie" is available on YouTube here -

Enjoy! It's great fun.

The Crinan Canal features later in the film. Last time I passed Ardrishaig, (where the main road crosses the canal entrance) the canal basin had a Clyde Puffer (renamed "The Vital Spark"), available for trips on Loch Fyne.
Road signs on Islay feature both "The Maggie" and "The Vital Spark" in silhouette.

Ross

there you go - braunstonmarina.co.uk/Events June 24/25

Early May BH narrowboat meet is usually Droitwhich - depending on the level of the river Salwarpe (salty) but there are two ways in - river Severn & going south though not much headroom under the M5 so check.

I think there is a Morris meet in Stoke Bruerne this coming w/e.

and you missed the Evesham Morris w/e but it is an annual event with a ceilidh in the fabulous Fleece Inn in Bretforton . The pub is run by Nigel of Pebworth Morris & Warwick FF bar & Bromyard FF bar fame. He owns the Cardinal's Hat (1st Tues) in Worcester - near Worcester - sessions & an FC (easy access from R Severn & Diglis canal basin).

let me know if any f my entries are up to date or ceased. TIA
