Subject: ADD: County of Armagh From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Nov 25 - 01:08 AM Eileen, can you give us any more of the song? Here's one: County of Armagh (which is not far from Donegal) There's one fair county in Ireland with mem'ries so glorious and grand where nature has lavished its bounty it's the orchard of Erin's green land I love her cathedrals and cities once founded by Patrick so true and it holds in the heart of its bossom the ashes of Brian Boru CHORUS It's my dear Irish home, far across the foam although I've often left her in foreign lands to roam no matter where I wander in cities near or far sure my heart belongs in old Ireland in the County of Armagh I've wandered a part of the county through Newtown, Forkhill, Crossmaglen around by the gap of Mount Morris and back by Black Water again where the girls are so gay and so hearty the finest in Erin Go Bragh Ah but where are the boys who will court them The boys from the County Armagh CHORUS Source: https://www.irishsongs.com/lyrics.php?Action=view&Song_id=86 |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My dear Irish home From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Nov 25 - 01:16 AM It helps to have more than just the title to find a song. I searched for "my dear Irish home" at the Irish Traditional Music Archive and found three entries. https://www.itma.ie/ If you google "My Dear Irish Home" in quotation marks you'll get the best results. But if you can add just one phrase from the lyrics in quotes, you'll get better results. e.g., "my dear irish home" "my mother sneezed" Here's another song, this one on sheet music: https://wardarchives.pastperfectonline.com/library/C802B3AF-3C2D-407C-A931-350474551240 |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My dear Irish home From: GUEST Date: 09 Nov 25 - 06:56 AM Margaret McGuinness Elliott’s memoir is entitled “My Life—An Adventure.” She was born in Ballymote, Sligo, in 1887 and immigrated to New York City in 1904. Margaret wrote this text between 1972 and 1974 but died before completing it. A companion memoir was written by Margaret’s niece, Alice McGuinness, between 1990 and 1991. I have found a version of the chorus in this book. Thank you for your replies and suggestions

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My dear Irish home From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Nov 25 - 02:06 PM This is from Margaret McGuinness's Memoir (1973) - it's almost the same as the lyric posted above: CHORUS: Ireland, Ireland, though I am over the sea, Erin, my country, at night I am dreaming of thee, Dear little isle of the west, sweet spot of memories blest, Land of the bog and the shamrock, oh, how I long to be there. https://publish.iupress.indiana.edu/read/of-memory-and-the-misplaced/section/5d997fc6-83c5-446d-9f10-f4c46540fd71 |
