I have a lyric in my head and I want to know what the song is and who did it. I think it's an English band and maybe from the 80s, but I can't be sure. The lyric runs "yes, yes, my dear, maybe next year and maybe even now"

As soon as I posted that message I realised why the last bit of the lyrics sounded familiar. This is probably not the song you are looking for but the last line is: "Well, maybe next year..."

That song is an earworm! I've had it run through my head a few times in the past (it's a lot less annoying than 76 Trombones).

Well I had the joy of seeing Cleo Laine perform it live many years ago. Her version was brilliant. There was no harp accompaniment like this video so that was disappointing but her husband John Dankworth was amazing in the concert too.

Yes, a genius.

Those lines were just throwaway lines in the song, so I never would have remembered which song they came from or who sang them.

Mystery solved. Now we can go and listen to Ian Dury to celebrate. There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards.
