Dear all,

Myself (son of Dave and Heather Brady), Mac Bolch (writing a book about Royston Wood) and my sister Jenny Brady are pulling together a complete archive of music, film, photos, gig listings, interviews, reviews and stories about Swan Arcade and would like your help if possible?

We have managed to find a large amount of material so far, with lots of unheard, unreleased music and film footage, we have recordings of every version of the group, and have traced back gigs for members back to 1964. We have music recordings from almost every year from 1971 to 1990. We have created a highly interactive chronological website which also allows you to easily find all of the media we have unearthed. In addition to this we have had lots of their friends, peers and fans agree to be a part of this process and we have exciting things to come from them also.

The reason for my long message is because although we have lots, we want to try and make this as complete as we can, and we really want to capture fan memories, photos, any music we don’t have etc, so if you have anything at all to do with Swan Arcade, please do get in touch. We know we are missing the BBC John Peel session with Brian Miller, so if you have that on tape etc, please get in touch :-)

Many thanks in advance for your help, all the best,

Davoc, Max and Jenny

It would be easier to find if you gave the website address...

I have advised the Hull History Centre to allow you to use the recordings of SA from the Hull Folk Archive. Best of luck with this. I have fond memories of the tremendous wall of harmonies from Blue Murder at Whitby in the Spa, impromptu of course. A link to the Yorkshire Garland website would be useful once you're up and running.

Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for this, really appreciate it! I will credit you on the site, and also link to the Hull Archive. It’s so great to have that recording, as it’s actually the very first listing we’ve been able to find for Swan Arcade as a group, it comes as the first chronological listing in the timeline, and the recordings really help to understand the effect the group had on audiences due to the sound of the crowd being quite high on the recordings.

So many thanks, can’t wait to share the full site with you and the rest of the folk music community.

All the best,

Davoc

outside the music, I remember Dave coming up from Cullingworth to sell carpets at markets in Newcastle (Sunday) Stockton (Monday) and Hexham or Darlington (Tuesday.) He once arrived at Newcastle Quaysde market to find his pitch occupied.

The offending trader had been told to move but ignored it- he'd been warned what might happen & it did- the stall & his goods ended up in the Tyne
