Subject: A Christmas Story - John Henry Faulks
From: McGrath of Harlow
Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:06 PM

Last Christmas katlaughing posted a link to this story, which they put out on the radio every year, I gather.

Anyway, I remembered it, and I thought people might like to hear it if they haven't heard it before. And if they have heard before they might like to hear again. So here it is

Mind you, there've been true stories on the Mudcat this year which have been just as heartwarming. The kind of stories that stop you wanting to give up on people, which can be tempting at times.

And here is a link to last year's thread, which has some interesting stuff about the storyteller.

Thanks, McGrath. I never get tired of that one.

Among John Henry Faulk's credits was a five year stint on Hee Haw. Remembering that, I wonder whether anyone has collected his Hee Haw stories into a video dedicated to John Henry Faulk? I'd sure buy a copy if they have.

Come to think of it, Hee Haw hired quite a few "originals" that otherwise wouldn't have had jobs. Most of them were relegated to minor roles but it was always a pleasure to see them and to know that someone remembered who they were and valued them as an addition to the show.

This is one of my favorites. They broadcast it Christmas Eve morning this year while I was still in bed, but awake. It makes me bawl like a sick calf. :)

I got to thinking about JHF and surfing around and stumbled on this reference to an early Dylan song about JHF. Too bad we missed it.

I also found information about the Hee Haw program that lists all the people that were members of the cast at various times. I'm not sure how complete the list is because neither Merle Travis nor Bobby Thompson are listed although JHF is listed.

"Too bad we missed it."

I'd not be surprised if it might still be floating around somewhere. Maybe on some ancient tape with another name on it. I'd suggest, Mark, that you open a thread here, trying to hunt down clues to it, with the title in the heading. A longshot, maybe, but longshots sometimes come up.
