Hi,

I've just been checking a websibe that I've been writing for a friend, using Opera 5.

On a couple of pages, there are flow-charts (created by taking screen shots from MS Word drawings, and saving them as .gifs in a graphics program)

Both work fine in IE5 and Netscape 4.x. However in Opera, the gifs on this page (B12-1.gif and B12-2.gif) work fine, whereas the one on this page (hyper.gif - about half way down the page) doesn't...

Both were created in the same way, so I'm a bit baffled. All other graphics on the site appear fine in all browsers.

I've put a couple of screenshots showing the differences I get with the different browsershere

It isn't a major problem, as I doubt many people will ever visit these pages, let alone those using Opera.

But I am curious.

(Jon Freeman tells me it looks fine in Opera 4)

Thanks a lot

Ed

I just checked. The image on the page (Hyper.gif) looks identical in IE 5.5 and Opera 5.12

Also looks ok in NS 4.7, Mozilla 0.9.3, Opera 4.02, IE 5.0, IE 6.0 and Amaya 4.2

ed - try changing the size of your window - I checked the screenshots you made and linked to at the Annexe - and it looks like it's a display problem rather then a program problem.

I must day, I use opera (5) and had no problems viewing the links. However I *did* have problems with oprea displaying graphics when I first started using it.

Here's what I did: Go to "Preferences" in the File Menu and select "connections" in to window that pops up. Make sure the browser identification is set to "Identify as Opera". Should clear up any graphics wooginess.

interesting...I get the same problem Ed does...unless I copy the address to JUST the GIF and paste it into Opera...then it displays fine. ...but it seems Opera is not so easy as Netscape to right click on the GIF and and to see just the image. I am not sure why....

this address, pasted into Opera, gives a good display

Thanks everyone,

This is very bizzare.

I get the same result (ie a good one) as Bill when I view the graphic by itself.

Why on earth should this one graphic (when others are quite similar) misbehave when embedded in html??

Ed

there IS an Opera newsgroup...has a number of categories. You might ask there...

(and MY problem with Opera is how it reads Mudcat threads....when I click on a thread, it loads the post just fine...but if I click on a post in the list, it treats it like a separate request and sends a new request, slowing down the process instead of just popping directly down the already loaded list like Netscape does..On the whole, I like lots of things about Opera...but little things like that,,,and the fairly awkward way it handles bookmarks keeps me from using it full-time.[I imported my Netscape bookmarks, and it did NOT get my nested folders right....things are hard to find. I wish they use a simple HTML file like Netscape]

Bill,

I will ask in the Opera newsgroup - you guys are pretty friendly though - in case it was something obvious...
