Subject: Chris Newman and Maire From: Midchuck Date: 16 Jul 02 - 08:19 AM Chris posted the following to the Flatpick-L list when he meant to send it to his UK mailing list. I thought it might get to a few more UK people if I cross-posted it here. Chris is very irritating to listen to if you play guitar, because he raises the bar beyond the reach of normal people, but I keep going back anyway. I suspect Maire has the same effect on Irish harpers. Peter. ************************************************* Just a line to let you know that Máire Ní Chathasaigh (Irish harp) and Chris Newman (guitar) are playing this month at the following venues: Tue 16 Dartford Folk Club 01322 222553
Nottinghamshire Rural Touring "Music in quiet places" series 0115 977 4418
Thu 25 Galway Arts Festival 091 586540 Hope to see you somewhere...

Subject: RE: Chris Newman and Maire From: JedMarum Date: 16 Jul 02 - 09:11 AM I saw Chris and Maire at the North Texas Irish festival this year and enjoyed them immensely. After hearing them for a few moments, I realized there has never been a human being who touched a guitar that played better then Chris Newman. He is simply supberb! Beautiful music. |

Subject: RE: Chris Newman and Maire From: bigchuck Date: 16 Jul 02 - 04:47 PM I concur. I had the priviledge of hearing Chris and Beppe Gambetta doing a workshop together at Old Songs....absolutely amazing. It was the first time they'd ever played together too, with the exception of maybe 10 minutes at Old Songs 3 years ago. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Chris Newman and Maire From: Lanfranc Date: 16 Jul 02 - 06:06 PM Chris has been one of my guitar heroes ever since I first heard him playing along with Fred Wedlock. His O'Carolan CD with the divine harper I always refer to as "Mary the Unpronounceable" is a constant in the CD sixpack in my car - an instant cure for road rage! Try it - for whatever reason, but try it. Alan
