Mary, you might try to contact Moggy Vanderkin, who is either President or past President of the PFS. You should be able to reach her through the Portland Folklore Society. I went to Silver Falls in 1984 and had a fantastic time. I even wrote my first tune, "Silver Falls Waltz". When I brought it to my new group of Irish musicians in Honolulu, our harper said, "Hey, I was married at Silver Falls Park!" Small world... Have a wonderful time, and say hi for me.

Aloha,
Mark

Silver Falls is a beautiful place. East of Salem 15-20 miles on Hwy. 22, and close to Silverton, it is a big place. 23 falls, I think, that you can follow on the paths- you even walk behind one particularly large one.

I didn't know it has a music camp, but it is a wonderful setting for it. I would love to make music there...

It has camp sites- where I've camped many a time- lots of parking lots and buildings, even flush toilets.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe it was the Corvallis Folk Music Club that sponsored Silver Falls. But some of the Portland people should know about it.

Aloha,
Mark

I didn't see it mentioned in the Corvallis Folklore Society calendar...but there's some great stuff going on down in the Mid-Willamette Valley!

Aloha,
Mark

Sorry to inform that the Silver Falls folk music weekend was Oct. 4-6. Organized by the Corvallis Folklore Society. One hundred sixty-five wonderful folks of all ages (lots of teen-agers this time, but there are not so many 20 and 30-year-olds) fiddled, strummed, sang, danced, shared info and inspiration and had a great old time. Silver Falls State Park is on old-growth-covered foothills on the west slope of the central Oregon Cascades.

It was a great time. Sorry you weren't there, Mary. And sorry I didn't get to your Sunnycamp. How did it go?

And Hey, Mark! It sure is nice to read your words and remember the fine times we've had singing together. Hope things are going well.

David

Thanks.   I was thinking of having Sunnycamp next year the first weekend of October, which actually would be better for me as I have something else the second weekend always..and we get mixed up with cranberry harvest later. Is it always the first weekend or does it fluctuate?

Some Portland people said not to have it the same weekend....do a lot of Portland people go? Would it make any difference because if you went to one would you go to another two weeks later?????

We have a conflict with Wannadance the third weekend so some Seattle folks can't make it.

A dilemma.

Wish you could have come David..it was great.

Same to you, David. Good to see you here at the 'Cat. As I recall, you were involved in online folk music discussion groups before the World Wide Web even existed! Check out my photo under "Member photos and info" in the dropdown list at the top of the page: you and Mary are in it, too! That one was from Singtime Frolics 2000. One of these days Shayna and I will get back there...and to PSGW, and to Folklife, and to Camp Harmony, and....so many festivals, so many miles...!

Aloha,
Mark
