of Chicago Seven fame. I honestly thought at least a few other 'Catters would have noted this. And cared.

Thanks, I hadn't heard the news. I live in a news blackout area so when I don't have time to just surf the Net for news, it's possible to miss things like this.

And of course you must have meant the Chicago Eight.

I hadn't heard that. I imagine there'll be an obituary in the Guardian in a few days.

A thoroughly good man. The kind of man that makes it ridiculous when cold warriors and terror warriors try to brand their opponents as anti-American.

Here's a link to some stuff about him Dave Dellinger and the Power of the People

Thanks very much, Saul, for pointing this out. Amazing that it has been so under-played in the news. He was a major figure of the 60's, along with Abbie Hoffman. Glad he lived so long.

I heard this announced on NPR yesterday. They interviewed John Froines. A nicely done story. So long, Dave and thanks for all you did.

Thank you for posting this. I heard a wonderful segment on Pacifica Radio's Democracy Now, lots of interviews with folks from Chicago Eight, War Resisters League and such.

Dave was at our wedding, and at one point I looked over to see him in a conversation with my Uncle Proc, probably the most conservative guest at the wedding. They had a great time.

Dave was in it for the long haul, and the love and intelligence he brought to his conversations with friends and antagonists alike was an amazing thing.

We'll miss him.

And here's the Guardian obituary - two thirds of the page with a big picture of Dave in a suit flanked by Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin not in suits - David Dellinger - Pacifist elder statesman of the anti-Vietnam Chicago Eight

Here's a quote from the one in today's Independent But from the moment he forswore violence after being involved in a student riot in the mid-1930s, until his dying day, he was on the barricades for peace.

Thanks for those links Kevin - I found it from the first one but it had me puzzled for a few moments - and then I found links to a whole lot of thoughtful and thought-provoking reading. Excellent stuff.
