Help, Ive lost my thread.

I started a thread on the loudness of different instruments and now I cannot find it.

Can anybody help?

I think it was called;

How loud is the thing you play?

I know the answer will be very simple but I give.

If a thread hasn't been posted to in the past few hours, it can fall tot he bottom or completely off the current day's list. To find it, set the age filter to however many days back you think it might've been, put a key word in the search box at the head of the thread titles, and hit GO. That'll bring up a few hits, usually with the right one included.

I've had the same probem myself. If a thread hasn't been "refreshed" (added-to) for several days, it can be hard to find.

You can change the default entry of "Age: 1 Day" to a longer period, and search through a longer list of threads. This is frustrating and difficult, and it is easy to miss the thing you're looking for once your eyes have glazed over. Unfortunately, I think this may be your only alternative.

I've tried to use the "search" function in this situation (unchecking "DT" and leaving "Forum" selected), but recent threads don't seem to show up. They must have to attain a certain "age" ~ a dormant period of sufficient length ~ before they become "searchable."

I read the "How loud" thread several times and found it pretty interesting and entertaining. I don't think I came up with anything to contribute, though. Good luck!

Not only that, but if you click on your own name in your first post above (or in any other post in any thread,) every post you EVER made will appear!

I refreshed your thread so you could find it more easily - not knowing that clickies had already been supplied by those helpful people above.

Kat ~ are you saying that the age filter and the search box work together? That had not occurred to me; maybe that's why I've had so much trouble finding threads when they're a little more than 24 hours old.

Besides those of us who reponded here all (at about the same time), it looks like someone else just found the thread in question and quietly refreshed it. Maybe it was a coincidence; I prefer to think it was a good deed.

I find the Filter is the best tool for finding things by thread name. Put a pertinent word from the thread title into the Filter box, and then set the age back.
PoppaGator, this is a personal challenge to you - try this and see if it works. Put lou or loud in the filter box and set it back 14 days. You'll find that the results list is short and sweet.

Or you can "TRACE" the thread and get to it again from your personal page. Lots of fine options here on the `Cat.

Joe -- will do. Like I said, I didn't realize that the "age" box related to the search; I assumed that it only contolled the number of threads displayed on the list.

The "trace" function is great, as long as you anticipate which threads you'll want to check back into later.

Mention of tracing reminds me of something to add to the "wish list":

If there were an easier way to make "wholesale" deletions from one's tracer list, my list would be considerably shorter. Like a check box at each topic, so you could check 8 or 10 or more threads and then click "Delete All."

Killing one at a time is such a slow process that I never delete as many as I intend. Also, now that I have accumulated such a cumbersome collection of traced threads, I'm a bit reluctant to add more.
