I have just attended a concert given by Robb Johnson at Porthcawl Grand Pavillion.

He must have been very disappointed as there were only about 30 people there. Great shame on those who did not attend.

All the songs sung were self penned.

Speaking as a person who as a rule loathes putting up with self penned rubbish which is the general output; I was not prepared for the stunning content and delivery of his set this evening.

His politics is reflected in the content of his work from start to finish and I am convinced that here is a man who says what he beleives and lives the dream that one day the common man will win the prize.

I urge all folk clubs to book this man at your earliest opportunity. You will not be disappointed!!

Puck

I'd like to hear this Grand Conversation between Robb Johnson & Cllr. Was it anything like the one I heard Billy Bragg having with Boris Johnson, I wonder?

He is well respected generally, he filled our club in St Albans before Christmas, and my only regret is not having known more about him.

he is rated above Billy Bragg by many , inc Maggie Holland who wrote 'A Place Called England'

Sounds like you would like George Papavgeris, as on his last Album Robb was influencial.

There are some good singer songwriters around, but, you have to go looking for them.

We have top Canadian singer/writer, - contemp in the tradition of N American stars like Paxton, Stan Rogers,

Dan Mckinnon in St Albans on Friday

Duke of Marlborough

But do spread the word about Robb

He came through Eugene, Oregon with David Rovics last month. I was quite impressed.

Just as an extra bit of info, I thought I'd share this with you all.

I spoke to Robb before his set and asked him what on earth he was doing playing a shithole like Porthcawl Grand Pavillion [ to 30 people]. He replied, 'Dunno, just lucky I guess!!'

That's nothing to Robb - you should hear his song about supporting Chumbawumba!
