Hi - posting on behalf of a friend who is currently having to travel to Darlington for her music fix. There must be something going on in Barnard Castle - mustn't there? Please let me know, and we can prevent some of those greenhouse gases.

If she plays old time fiddle, I know a good banjo player in BC who'd love to meet her.

She's not an instrumentalist, Ray, but a good singer. Do you know of any pub sessions or folk clubs in the area?

Sorry, Ann - I'm in South Yorkshire. I don't know anything about the Barnard Castle folk scene apart from my banjo playing friend.

Don't know if it still goes on but the local dance sides used to have a big weekend bash in and around BC each Mayday weekend. If your friend is in town I imagine the host sides should be able to give a few pointers regarding the local folk scene.

Used to be a right good do, but I don't dance these days, so am out of touch.

I remember there being a small folk club operating out of a tiny room in a pub just near the Buttermarket but I can't remember the name of it. I think it's on Newgate but I'm afraid it's many years since I lived there and my brain isn't what it was!!

C-flat.

She says "I'm not a fiddle player, but I've got a soft spot for banjos!"
