Subject: Lyr Add: ISLAND OF TIREE From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 11 Mar 07 - 09:46 PM This one? Island of Tiree When first I saw the Island of Tiree Surrounded by the great Atlantic sea . . The sky was clear, the sun was shining down On the lovely island shore-line all around........ Chorus The ferry leaves for Oban every day And passes Tobermory on the way Then just beyond the lovely isle of Coll Is Tiree - the most beautiful of all There are so many wild and pretty flowers To try to name them all would take for hours, And then the birds - a hundred kinds and more Nestling on the white sands by the shore........ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Isle of Tiree / The Island of Tiree From: Jack Campin Date: 25 Jul 26 - 04:27 AM You'd think Moira's often-sung song would be on this CD: Tiree Songbook It isn't. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Isle of Tiree / The Island of Tiree From: GUEST Date: 25 Jul 26 - 11:14 AM Jack not authentic enough for the nominated purist purveyors of 'island folk culture'. plus it's a modern copyright work and they would have to pay royalties. Moira wrote what has become a little tartan standard over the decades. Like several other of her standard song, she can be proud of that. She is quite right that her name should have been down on the posted lyrics.. it really annoys me when people on this site post without credit. This one is such an easy song to locate its modern origins, that there is no excuse for missing a credit to the writer/composer. |
