NEVER HEARD OF EPWORTH!!! Where have you been hiding - it's the world-famous birthplace of the Wesleys. You can't move for Americans looking round the place in the summer!

It also was the home of that opera-singer lady from Donny, whose name I can't remember.

Ep'th, Hub Of The Universe.

Now I'm confused. I found this website
http://yorkshire-folk-arts.com/directory/clubs_south.html
that says Ep'th Folk is in South Yorkshire and meets on Tuesdays (fortnightly) with singers & occasional guests. Are there two Epworth's, one in each county, one on each night.

Or has it just changed nights.

Thanks for clarification.

Judy

Totally boring and internal discossion, if this is the way that folk music in England hopes to ressurect itself then I am sorry for you.

P.S. Sorry fot the spelling, I know how much this counts for on this forum, I was in the 60's a member of Ewan McColl's singers club in London, those days are gone.

Harsh 'Guest Jane!!'...Epworth is off the M180 about half way between Doncaster/Scunthorpe...Folk music very much alive in area generally; no resurections necessary!! We would welcome your contributions...see 'Folktalk' on web for all other thriving clubs in the region.

Guest Jane...I have also been around the Folk scene since the 60's and am seeing plenty of good clubs and music available but not so much in the "General Public" eye. Perhaps you can think of some method by which we can get Folkies back on TV more regularly or at least to get them to project themselves more into the 'limelight'.
Best wishes, Mike.
P.S If you don't like boring and internal discussions you could always avoid them rather than join.
Again Best wishes, Mike.
PPS I like Epworth...when I can get there!

Leslie Garret still has a second home in Epworth
and a sister. She hails from Thorne where she went to the Grammar
school.

Ep'Eric's the name. Founder and organizer of Ep'th Folk 18 years
ago on hallowe'en. Thanks for the name Jane.
There is only one Epworth and we are it. We changed to Tuesday
about 4 years ago, but it was disastrous so we changed back to
Monday which it had always been. We are North Lincs. with a
Doncaster post code.

Excellent broadcast Jane. Congrats. on a job well done.

There is always the risk of confusion when a place is in one county and the post town in another. I administer the Yorkshire Folk Arts website mentioned above (it includes Northern Lincolnshire) but I have to rely on what people tell me; I am not psychic. The Epworth entry was provided by a researcher 3 years ago; she presumably assumed that venues with Doncaster post codes were best listed together. A mistake, but easily made. Now that I know the club has moved back to Mondays, I will amend the entry, and move it to the Lincolnshire section.

If people were to tell me when they change their arrangements, I would be able to provide more accurate listings. Regrettably, the organisation does not at present have the money to employ a researcher. Though I do try to be pro-active, there are only so many hours in the day; and sleep is occasionally necessary.

Is Ep'th Eric the same Eric that taught Light Craft at Hatfield High School ? We even had a folk club for short time ( or was it folk evenings done by the history club I forget). Hadn't he been to Pompei ? That would be about 27 years ago.

It can't possibly have been me Julie, if it was 27 years ago.

I did run a Folk club, 4.pm until 5.30pm on Wednesdays and I have been known to be lurking in the back streets of Pompeii, but it can't be me if it was so far back.

How about a reunion on Monday?. I'll be the one with the Scythe and

A bit too far to come from the other side of Sheffield on a work night by public transport. I'ld have to see if I can persuade anyone that they really want to drive me over and experience the club. Will make it over sometime.

I agree it can't possibly be 27 years . There again I can't possibly have a 20 year old daughter either.

All the best

I bow to your superior recall.

I assume that 2d would now have at least translated to a pint of the landlord's finest ale to be bought when I do manage to get over.

( would be a trifle pedantic of me to say it would have been more likely to be 5p as I'm not that old and if I ever knew the words to a pub with no beer they have been scoured from my soul by being in many pubs were that was not the case)

Have fun on Monday

how I agree, totally boring internal monologue, now in the 60's we used to dicuss the meaning of life, the essence of being as it were, the existential nature of existence itself, freedom as a leitmotif in European culture....used to piss ourselves over that last one!

you don't get that in folk clubs nowadays, just a few songs and pie and peas in the interval if you're lucky. It's crap really.
