Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST,Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 15 Nov 07 - 11:44 AM "1001 cleans a big big carpet, for less than half-a-crown.......for less than half-a-crown." Back in the mists of time - well, 18th October 2002 - Shambles referred to the 1001 advert. But before that line, the start of the jingle was - 1001, 1001. Get rid of that work-a-day frown. 1001 cleans a big big carpet, For less than half-a-crown.......for less than half-a-crown There was also the Murray Mints series, including the astronaut at countdown: 5 . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . Blast off. "You'll just have to wait. I'm too busy finishing my Murray Mint, the too good to hurry mint." Followed by the jingle: "Murray Mints, Murray Mints, Too Good to Hurry Mints". There was a public service film about The Thieves' Kitchen. I suspect that there was a verse before this one, but this is the bit I remember: "Out for a minute? Not going far? Don't close the door, dearie, leave it ajar." Yes, leave it ajar, yes, leave it ajar "And we'll nick yer TV without saying 'Ta'." There was a family in a car heading home to watch a programme on TV. I may have the times wrong here! Wife in front passenger seat to driver: "Faster, George, that programme starts at 6.15!'" Grandma (from the back seat): "Slow down, George, it doesn't start till 7.20!" Children (from the back seat): "Quick, Dad, it's on now!" Followed by the jingle: The only way to see What's coming on ITV Is to go and get the TV Times! They don't really seem to go for jingles as such anymore. They've gone for linking commercial recordings with products. Still, at least it spares us from More reasons to shop at Mor-risons. Shoh slaynt, Bobby Bob |

Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST,Martie Date: 27 Feb 08 - 02:21 PM Hi again. I posted the jingle from the pampers commercial. After posting it here I did some research on google and was shocked to see that the "Jenny Rebecca" lyrics are actually a Barbra Streisand song from 1965! All these years I had no idea I named my daughter after one of her songs!! Anyone remember..."I WANT MY MAYPO!"? It's maple flavored oatmeal or some kind of soft cereal. Maybe cream of wheat. I made my mother buy it for me back in the 50's because of that commercial. And I hated it!! It was a cartoon commmercial with a little kid with a cowboy hat on or some kind of big hat. And he's sitting at an empty bowl with a spoon in his fist, whining for his Maypo! How about Tony the Tiger and his loud "They're GRRRRRRRRREAT!!"? (Frosted Flakes). This is a great thread!! I think I'll run to the store now and get some Good and Plenty!! I remember that Charlie commercial! |

Mortein (purveyors of flyspray) used to have a tag line "When you're on a good thing, stick to it!" and they also did a musical skit on Looie the Fly but I can't bring it to mind. Tarzan's Grip was a popular adhesive sold in squeeze tubes (like toothpaste) and the ads had a tag line "Get a tube of Tarzan's Grip, the stuff that sticks!" which us smutty-minded schoolkids modified to "Get a grip of Tarzan's tube, the stick that stuffs!" Sigh! Cheers, Rowan |

However, in retrospect, I'd say "We're going well, we're going Shell, we're going well with Shell, Shell, Shell," with Bing Crosby singing it, was probably shown on both sides of the pond. The more international the product, the more chance of it being shown globally. |
