Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Jeri Date: 12 Mar 09 - 01:10 PM Iron Chef, S. Portland. I love brussels sprouts and cauliflower, which is great if you add a smidge of nutmeg. (It's even better with a cheese/cream sauce or garlic and a lot of butter, but dairy is why I'm on this diet.) |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: TRUBRIT Date: 12 Mar 09 - 06:38 PM Well - the chef himself does not log on to Mudcat so his wife will pass all these compliments along. How could you NOT make cauliflower fabulous -- I LOVE VEGETABLES!!!!!!! Dani - if you can beat Tom's brussell sprouts then you are a good cook.....they are to die for...... See most everyone on Saturday....... |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: ranger1 Date: 12 Mar 09 - 08:22 PM Ooh! Beef stew! Yum! As for the fat in food, may I recommend an outside job in winter? I've lost weight while eating more, go figure. |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Anglo Date: 12 Mar 09 - 11:41 PM Sorry I can't be there. Haven't seen Joe Stead in years. I met him at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the early 70s, I think he was staying down there for a while. He probably won't remember me, but if you could say hello for me, I'd appreciate it. Sounds like you'll have fun. John |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: SINSULL Date: 13 Mar 09 - 08:28 AM Hi John! I will give him your best, Hard to imagine anyone not remembering you. We miss you up here in snow country. Mary |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Bat Goddess Date: 13 Mar 09 - 08:35 AM Me, too, on the veggies -- especially cauliflower, broccoli, brussel's sprouts, asparagas...fava beans, chickpeas, onions, carrots, parsnips, turnips and rutabega. Oh, and kolrabi -- though not many people even know what it is. And I LIKE zucchini! (Fried with onions, zucchini bread, etcet etcet.) Not crazy about okra except pickled, but I can't think of anything I don't like. Linn |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: SINSULL Date: 13 Mar 09 - 11:51 AM So how come every salad and vegetable that gets served at these "events" ends up in leftover containers while the ice cream, cake, and double fried stuff disappears? |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Fortunato Date: 13 Mar 09 - 04:42 PM Hey, Mary, are we going to get any of this good stuff when we come to your house? |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: jacqui.c Date: 13 Mar 09 - 06:28 PM Roasted vegetables seem to go pretty well. I'll do some of those for Chance and Suzette. |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Barry Finn Date: 13 Mar 09 - 11:35 PM Hi Mary Justine & I are hoping to make it up after she "hopefully" finishes work in time to get there. I'll try & pick up something to bring along the way. We don't wanna come in one arm as long as the other. But we won't know until later in the day. Are we OK? Barry |

Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: maeve Date: 14 Mar 09 - 05:16 PM I have no ride to get there and it's too far to try on my own. I am very disappointed to miss Joe's music and everyone's company. maeve |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Charley Noble Date: 15 Mar 09 - 12:22 AM Joe certainly did a great job, and he filled the room with his deep bass voice. I bet they heard him across the street! I left at 11 pm and folks were just getting warmed up for singing. Great food as usual and great company. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Jeri Date: 15 Mar 09 - 01:20 AM I got home in one piece, but I'm TIRED. Wonderful concert. I may rave some more tomorrow when I'm conscious. |

Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: jacqui.c Date: 15 Mar 09 - 08:01 AM Another great evening. Joe is a treasure - he kept the whole room in fits of laughter for most of the evening. His lovely wife, Nora, tried to keep him somewhat in line, but, fortunately, was not too successful in that regard. Joe seemed very pleased with the fact that the whole room joined in the choruses. The after concert singaround was amazing, lots of energy and it was still going pretty well when I left about 1.15. This sort of event is well worth the time and effort that goes into making it happen. |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Leadfingers Date: 15 Mar 09 - 08:06 AM Even MORE Mutterings !! IS FAR too long since I had an evening of Joe's zany humour . Glad it went well . |

Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: GUEST,Dani Date: 15 Mar 09 - 09:34 AM Glad it was a fun night! Wish I could have been there with you. I forgot to mention my favorite part of his night in Durham: when he whipped out a camera to take a picture to prove he had an audience : ) Dani |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: SINSULL Date: 15 Mar 09 - 11:11 AM My post disappeared... Joann and I were laughing ourselves to tears. Joe is a very humourous character. His music is wonderful - and yes we did enjoy the choruses. Nora is a pleasure - and a non-morning person like me. To bed at 3:15 and up at 8AM. I am too old to be having this much fun. There was a wealth of music after the concert as well. It has been too long. many thanks to Joe and Nora for a memorable evening. By the way, did no one else notice that Joe is Micca only bigger?????? Fortunately, he kept his clothes on. |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: jacqui.c Date: 15 Mar 09 - 12:52 PM I reckon that Joe and Micca were twins, separated at birth, but Joe got about 50% of what should have been Micca...... |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Leadfingers Date: 15 Mar 09 - 01:10 PM And Joe got most of the musical talent too !! |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Bat Goddess Date: 15 Mar 09 - 02:31 PM Lovely evening . . . lovely morning . . . lovely music . . . lovely company . . . Home now. Tired. Later, Linn |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Jeri Date: 15 Mar 09 - 02:56 PM I'm finally starting to believe I'll live. Nasty migraine, and I didn't even drink much (less than a glass of wine and a taste of Lagavulin. You HAVE to (at least) taste 18 year-old single malt. So now I'm not feeling like hammered dog crap, I've managed to eat something, it's a beautiful day out, AND I have a couple new CDs to enjoy.! I gotta say Joe just owns the stage, even if it's a house concert and there's no stage. He can be hilarious and turn around and sing a beautiful, evocative piece of aural poetry. Plus, his mandojobanjolin is really cool. |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: Barry Finn Date: 15 Mar 09 - 04:09 PM Joe certinally is a performer & entertainer par excellence. His performance was engaging, his songs refreshing & his babbling delighful. I'm very happy to have had the chance to be tickled to death by this man. Barry |
Subject: RE: Joe Stead House Concert - Maine (14 Mar 09) From: ranger1 Date: 15 Mar 09 - 05:29 PM Ugh. I should have called in sick to work this AM, stayed later last night and joined you all for breakfast. Sigh. Not that it was a bad day at work, it just started too early. But I did get to listen to my new CD on the way to work. |
