They usually have a tent set up right inside the main gate. They should be able to help your friend any way he needs. Make sure you come by Folk-Legacy and say "Hi!". Last year I was chatting to the EMT at the booth and read her name tag - it was Sonny Ochs. Your friend may want to check in at the medical tent when he arrives, and give the folks a "heads up." |

So much music, so many people to meet, so many CD's to choose; and the FOOD! But most of all the music, and the musicians. Probably will post more impressions of the whole thing later, but mostly want to post a "THANKS!" to Bill and Allen C - 'cause if they weren't on the Excellent Adventure I probably would have passed on Old Songs again...and Thanks to Sandy and Caroline and Dick and Susan for "hosting" the MudCatters... |

Don't forget, if you were at Old Songs, or even if you weren't, to send in your evaluation sheet, and stress how nice it was that they put a porta-potty in a central location in the infield, across from area 3, so that people camped there didn't have to walk half a mile in the middle of the night, and how sad it was that it was "out of order" on Saturday... I hope see you all again soon. Butnext years Old Songs is on the week end my boys graduate from high school so I won't be there. And waiting two years will be tough. Getting to swap songs with Kendall Morse for an hour was definately a high point for me. He sings as well with Laryngitis as many do without it. He even let me play his Taylor guitar. I even did some jewelry business. A perfect week end from start to finish. Don |

Tell ya what, send me ten bucks and an address, and I'll send you one. The ten will cover tax, postage and the package. Call it a mudcat discount. You have a choice of three tapes. The Seagulls & Summerpeople is a tape of Maine Humor with one song, Mooseturd Pie, the one titled Lights along the shore is a collection of old songs such as Lorena ( all six verses) Bally James Duff, Satisfied Mind..etc. I would prefer that you order those directly from Folk Legacy. The one you may order from me is titled, Beginners Luck. This is a collection of songs on one side, and stories on the other. Songs include, Phoebe Snow, Ashes on the sea, 3 legged man, Rolling Home, The Haying song, Mrs. Ravoon, Palace Grand,Band played Waltzing Matilda and, Gently, down the stream of time. |

Meeting Mudcat people that I've never seen before but already felt they were friends was an extraordinary feeling. Hearing them say "Muse!" when they found out who I was was a real treat. I was able to thank Bill and Allan in person for their Great Adventure that I think brought us all closer as a Mudcat family. I was thrilled to be sitting between them at a Sing around when they both took their turns. And I discovered that Kendall is definately not a pain in the ass (of course I never thought he was!) and is indeed very huggable. Special thanks to the Folk Legacy 'Catters who provided us with our unofficial/official meeting place. The entire weekend was as close to perfect as it could have possibly been in every way. Not a Grand Tour like Allan and Bill's--but go from here to Ohio and Penn, then do Old Songs and my family in Philly,MD, and DC. About how many days should we schedule for driving time to spaw's place? We are about 12-14 hrs from Wichita,KS for an overnite at the maw-in-law's, then how much longer? And just which weeks should we schedule in order to make Old Songs in the middle? What are the dates? |

It was a great pleasure to meet Bill and Allen and the many other Mudcatters I met in person. Many thanks to Dick Greenhaus and Sandy and Caroline. My personal high point (one of many) was taking my 9 yr old granddaughter to her first guitar workshop and watching her play and sing for a bunch of strangers. I recommend it highly. |

I've always loved Old Songs, and it was soo good to meet those of you that I did meet. Somehow I missed a few. Well, better luck next year. One thing we all seemed to forget in the pre-festival descriptions...the sign interpretation (nominally for the deaf)! The visual interpretation of "The Five Constipated Men in the Bible", or Les Barker's poem "Dachshunds With Erections Can't Run Upstairs" adds immeasurably to the depth of comprehension for the hearing audience as well.

I'm very near Route I-80. The week immediately before Old Songs would'nt be very good (I visit relatives on the way to the festival), but earlier, or after OS is fine. After all, it *is* nice to visit with somebody who knows what you're talking about after a gathering. *BG* |

Subject: RE: BS: mudcatters at old songs From: Sandy Paton Date: 29 Jun 00 - 03:42 PM We were generally too busy to spend as much time with fellow 'Catters as we would have liked, but I wish you all had been at the Friday night song-swap to hear Bill Sables sing "Yellow on the Broom," Don M sing "Can't Help but Wonder Where I'm Bound," Alan C offer his delightful arrangement of "Three Blind Mice" (you had to be there!), Animaterra give us a couple of Alouette Iselin's lovely originals, MMario ringing out a splendid presentation of a Tom Lewis song about the well-deserved fate of those who sell sailors bad beer, etc. There were more, of course, but I just wanted you to get an idea of the good time you missed. I'd urge you all to try to make it next year! It's a fine gathering. Sandy |

I tend to close myself off from my surroundings like a box turtle does emerging from time to time to eat. I will own up to feeling a little of that at times during Old Songs. But mostly, I was enjoying the company of fellow 'Catters and a few total strangers too much to notice the crowd. It was a pleasure to meet Mudcat folks "live and in person". I hope to see each of you again soon. The stage shows were fabulous. The workshops were great. But the thing I looked forward to the most was the late night sings. Sadly, by the time they started, I quickly ran out of energy and toddled off to my sleeping bag. But those who stayed to the end had great things to say the next day about the beautiful music of the night before. |
