I don't think Smarties are Canadian. As far as I'm aware they were first made in England by Rowntrees of York (now sadly part of Nestle). There's reference to this here

I used to like my coffee crisp. Crispy Crunch... ever try Will-O-Crisps ( sp ? )? mmmmmm. I can't wait for my second childhood. I mean the candy thing. Obviously, I never outgrew my first childhood mentally.

Chocolate bars. Absolutely delicious, as I remember from my childhood. I haven't eaten sweets for years. Will-o-Crisps are not a bar, but are triangular, about 50mm in height, 10mm thick and sold in bulk or by the box. Crispy crunch and W-o-C are close.

Crispy Crunch and Coffee Crisp are both wonderful, but I don't think I've ever had Will-o-crisps... I'll keep an eye out for them...

bert... the families of those young Canadian boys who gave their lives at Dieppe thank you. As for the sore point, it is best forgotten by other than military strategists. They were not the only ones sacrificed for victory. Dieppe was Dieppe. Normandy was Normandy. War is war.... Lest we forget.
