Sounds good. Tara and have a great time, Helen J. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Damp Squib From: Herga Kitty Date: 09 Feb 02 - 04:15 PM for Fib NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (No Moggy's Land) (Bob Kanefsky) Well, how d'ya do, old Moggy the Cat? I just noticed you landed where I almost sat. D'ya mind if I push you a bit to the side? I've been driving all day on the road where you died. You've been squashed like some butterfly pressed between glass Were you hit by a truck that was moving too fast? Did he slam on the brake as he saw you go past? Or, Moggy the Cat, did he step on the gas? CHORUS Did he honk the horn loudly? Did you stand your ground proudly? Did a shadow fall o'er ya as the truck mowed you down? Did your eyes glow in that fleeting darkness? Did the birds come and pick at your carcass? The ground squirrels and mice all seem happy today, The butterflies frolic; the hummingbirds play. A mockingbird sits there composing a dirge Till he finally yields to his scavenger urge. The robins and sparrows all join in the feast In their joyous relief that the terror has ceased. And the birds dance around you, not sad in the least, Like the Munchkins danced over the Witch of the East. Old Moggy the Cat, I still wonder why You road-kill look so damned surprised when you die. Did you think that some animal spirit survives? Did you really believe that a cat has nine lives? Kitty |
Subject: Lyr Add: NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (Bob Kanefsky) From: Herga Kitty Date: 09 Feb 02 - 04:19 PM Sorry, the end fell off. Here's the full version (I hope!):
NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (No Moggy's Land)
Well, how d'ya do, old Moggy the Cat?
CHORUS Did he honk the horn loudly?
The ground squirrels and mice all seem happy today,
Old Moggy the Cat, I still wonder why |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Damp Squib From: Lanfranc Date: 10 Feb 02 - 03:32 AM Dai, Thanks for putting that together for us. It was good to meet old friends, and put a few more faces to names. I hope that "The Friends of the Mudcat" help keep this site going. Sorry we couldn't stop longer. Alan |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Damp Squib From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler at ma-in-law's Date: 10 Feb 02 - 05:31 AM It was good to see the gang at the F&H & Crown yesterday. I didn't get to talk to many (too many loud "boxes"!)but I was impressed by the singers and musicians altho' not my usual style. They weren't even put off by my out-of-tempo washboard playing. Despite the injunction brought against me by the Health and Safety Executive I did give the occasional toot on the kazoo (must have been the odd half of Spitfire!). I also broke my New Year resolution and "sang" once,(sorry, guys) but in mitigation I had been tipped the wink it was time to empty the bar to encourage people to get back to York House. As a non-parent, I thought the assorted bratlings behaved very well too! I hope the rest of the weekend went off as well. Well done, "Dai" RtS ( a face made for radio; a voice made for mime) |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Damp Squib From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 02 - 12:46 PM Continued in the After Stony Stratfird (sic) thread |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Damp Squib From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Feb 02 - 06:00 AM I promised Morticia the final verse to "The Old Dun Cow". As far as I know it was written by Pete Twitchett who used to run the Croydon Folk Club, in days of yore, when it was at "The Waddon". I might as well post it so that anyone else who wants it (Vectis ?) can pick it up. I'll also PM it to Dick Greenhaus to see if he can add it to the DT version. Then all of a sudden, in the firemen rushed, And they saved us one by one. But when they came to save the booze, they found it had all gone. And when the fire was reported in the papers the next day. They said they found no booze at all - It must have all boiled away ! The fire really did happen many years ago at "The Dun Cow" in The Old Kent Road. It was feared that several drinkers had perished in the fire, until they were found floating in the cellar, which was Half full of water, all in advance states of intoxication. |
