Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: GUEST,a regular non-believer Date: 31 Oct 08 - 12:24 PM My boss's wife had an aggressive form of breast cancer several years ago. For chemo she had a mediport inserted to pump the chemicals through her system. Her cancer is in remission. Periodically she has complained of feeling like she is being "strangled" but no one knew what this could be. She had the mediport removed last spring, but it didn't improve. A vascular surgeon told them last week that on one side the jugular vein is scarred and clogged 100% with blood clots, and the other side is largely blocked by the same kind of damage. He told them there was nothing they could do. This is a result of the chemo. There is a duo terror here of scars and blood clots. Next week they see a specialist in a much larger city in the state. I will keep my fingers crossed and think good thoughts, but they are believers in the power of prayer and I think they would benefit from your good wishes. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: wysiwyg Date: 10 Feb 10 - 08:08 AM In another thread, it was suggested that I might take on some stuff, which I think relates well to this thread. Instead of starting a whole new "Thing," I've decided to share the following, here. It's long overdue, anyway. ~S~ IT'S A NEW DAY, HALLELUJAH! This post will cover a number of topics set off by dividers that look like this: === Thing One. Sometime since the last writing, the Prayer Chain, with which many were familiar, ceased to operate to/from the email address it had long used. There were a number of reasons, which had been accumulating. When Hotmail stopped working well with Outlook, my time also had just gotten quite a bit busier (incl strokebrain rewiring). I invited members to take over the mailbox; none volunteered. I left that Hotmail account on a "permanent" forward setting, to my personal email; I deleted the Chain's bookmark. This also coincided with a more salubrious MudEnvironment for a wonderful diversity of prayer/good thoughts threads. These seemed then and still seem, to me, to work well. I have particularly enjoyed seeing how the diversity of Mudcat is as well reflected in those threads as the Chain itself had always been. === Thing Two. In the same way that most Mudcatters have 3-D pursuits, obligations, and expectations, so do I. In the same way many Catters do not tell all their personal business here, nor do I. Some of these pursuits, obligations, and expectations would surprise folks who do not know me-- I suspect, quite a bit. :~) These are occupying more time of late than they have for a long time. I love them. I want to do them. And-- I want to give them the time they invite me to spend. === Thing Three. Lent is a particularly busy time for me each year, as a clergy spouse. This year's will be no less busy-- but in fact much MORE busy, as I have "Thing Two"-type stuff to do this year, and quite a lot of it. Some of it is not only fascinating in itself but is the groundwork for lucrative, compensate, professional work coming down the pike. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday (the day after Shrove or "Fat" Tuesday). === Thing Four. I'll be "giving up" the BS section here for Lent. (In the Anglican Church, most of the folks I know "give up" things in Lent not because they are bad, but because we want to focus, intentionally and sometimes with discipline, on something better-- which can still only be done in the Earth's approx. 24-hour day. :~) This means that folks who regularly "see" me here in BS threads (and who are sometimes led to PM me) will not see me there. They may wonder where I have "gone." Please refer them back to this post, if you would. Thank you. === Thing Five. I'm always only a short email away. My travels increasingly include email access. Most of the people who might need the addy already have it (look in our PMs, by subject line "Contact Info," or by PM Search). (It's also in a lot of old posts.) Those who already have my email address are welcome to give it to others who they think might need to be in contact, or to let me know of something to look at. Thank you. === Thing Six: Mudcat, and Me. Mudcat has never really been an effective place for me in a number of ways that are important to me. It has taken me practically my whole time here to figure out why this is so: It's not because of Mudcat-- it's not because of me-- it's simply because Mudcat does not contain a sufficient number of people who are CLERGY SPOUSES. To anyone who has a different impression-- um-- What You See Is What You Get. I say this descriptively, not pejoratively.... If anyone has a different impression, well, What You See Is What You Get, too. :~) I have always wished every one of you here the very best, as defined by you from your own view, and I cannot imagine wishing anyone otherwise no matter how difficult things have sometimes gotten. If anyone has a different impression-- What You See Is What You Get. :~) You'll figure it out someday if it's not clear yet. Thank you. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Feb 10 - 10:52 AM Thanks to the folks who have sent some nice AND productive-thought-provoking PMs. You know who you are. Thank you. === To folks who have just received our personal and professional contact info (Hardi's and mine) this week, feel free to put anyone in touch with us at your discretion... this means (to everyone else) that someone with whom you may not usually correspond might help in a "hookup." I would bet that if a notice were posted here that help was needed with a hookup, a person needing that would probably get a helpful PM in short order. Thank you. === I am reminded of late that a classic in non-violent communication sits somewhere in my house. Author: Marshall... (Rosenberg?).... gotta let the name float back up. (I recently had a Mr. "White" mind-filed as a Mr. "Washington.") Anyway-- this was a peace/justice activist and (IMO) secularist who did a heckuva job on material a lot of folks more usually get via Scripture. He called "violent" communication "Jackal Talk," but that was not the name of the short and rather lighthearted (text/cartoons?) book I recall..... if the book doesn't turn up maybe the title will float into my view... but if anyone else could find an online version of it, it would be a HUGE help. Thank you. === Note to Tink (who may see this, and for others who may see this that saw a prior post of mine I don't have time now to find), I have not forgotten about the piece I was going to write and share with you-- it's still unfolding productively. Thank you. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Feb 10 - 10:26 AM My morning prayer time once again reminded me how difficult it is to "give God the glory" (as my own goals lead me to want to do), in an atmosphere where there is a tacit agreement not to get in one anothers' faces about one's own spiritual practice/orientation. I'm just not good at being a Closet Christian, nor want to be one, so I'm praying about how that can grow.... one clue in Scripture this AM was about the Pool of Siloam, which means "sent." ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: GUEST,wys, cookie corrupt Date: 17 Feb 10 - 07:58 AM Getting some really weird results when I tried to reset membership settings to filter out BS, and also when I logged out I could not log back in. Yet the database sez that the membername I tried to sign in on is "taken," so I guess I am "corrupt," not "lost," LOL. Guess I'll try again later. But at present I cannot use MudTools to buttress my Lenten choice, LOL, so I guess that's God telling me to use my own self-control! :~) If any clone can fix my cookie I'll appreciate it though. ~Susan-who-can't-PM |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: robomatic Date: 15 Mar 10 - 03:06 PM Isn't it true that people who go to Church Of England pray on a weekly basis for the Royal Family? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: robomatic Date: 15 Mar 10 - 03:07 PM And if that is true, is it considered effective? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: ClaireBear Date: 15 Mar 10 - 05:58 PM Robomatic, I can't speak for CoE, but in the American Episcopal Church (which is in the Anglican Communion) we pray not directly for our national and regional leaders, but for clear guidance for and wise leadership from those leaders -- sometimes by name, sometimes not. And I can't tell if it's helping. That would be difficult, without a control group... C |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: wysiwyg Date: 16 Apr 10 - 04:02 PM Coupla things (random order). 1. I have often been asked to describe what my membername "means." For lack of a better place to refer a NUMBER of FAQs, I find it convenient to put that explanation here (upthread). I had to adjust the punc. recently because site HTML didn't like my earlier effort. Oh well! :~) 2. Another FAQ will probably be, what is "TBTG"? It's "Thanks Be To God." .... A lot less proselytizing than spelling it out as I so often long to do in my posts here, and less obvious that WWJD-- an acronym purdy much co-opted by the culture, anyhow. I have not seen TBTG anywhere else-- I guess I coined it one day in a business email. 3. Altho the emailed prayer chain is no longer operating, I do not object to (but I do not solicit) prayer requests being made in this thread. 4. As the thread's OP, may I say that I prefer folks not to use this thread for religious/religion controversy. Those discussions tend to go on forever; this thread is not the best place (in practical terms) for THAT. Thank you, ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Notice to Current Prayer Chain Members From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Apr 11 - 02:22 PM Just a quick note to let folks know that I will not be posting much in gang-prayer threads anymore. For me, these days, prayer happens in relationship. (Threads full of "me too" or "I heard x about y so let's all z" are just too hard for stroke-brain here to follow, even when I've had time to follow them.) Relationships are worth PMs. Always happy to exchange PMs-- or heck, even email. :~) ~Susan |
