Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 02 Nov 05 - 02:01 PM Just flying out to practise for Friday but just listened to you, Jane and you did yourself, proud. Well done! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 02 Nov 05 - 03:44 PM Yes Jane that went very well, with new baby as well :-) You looked very composed from where I was sitting. Inge listened on the radio and she enjoyed what you did. Hope you got home safely. I had to do a detour because of a serious accident once again on the A46 between Faldingworth and Middle Rasen. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 02 Nov 05 - 06:30 PM Just got back from Brocklesby there was a fine body of men in there playing with each other in a most delightful way! Lets hope they can do the same on friday or at least make music together. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 02 Nov 05 - 06:34 PM I am afraid we missed the broadcast because of poor reception in Grimsby what a nuiscence! Will there be any way of catching it again at all? |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 02 Nov 05 - 08:40 PM You could've listened to it on that computer thingy you have, Twangy! Or does it not work in Grimsby?! We can't get Radio Lincs on the radio, we have to listen to the Live feed on the computer. Hope you said hi to Cara guys for us. Looking forward to hearing them on Friday, along with the other performers. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 05 - 01:42 AM You had me confused there Tim. I thought you were on about WWW. Didn't realise you were on about them Cara lads. You should have looked at my post above giving you the link to radio Lincolnshire on the web. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Georgiansilver Date: 03 Nov 05 - 02:48 AM JK your performance on the radio was great...it came across really well..didn't think you'd be doing that song though!....Hope someone taped the programme as I could not get my recorder to work...can I have a copy please someone? Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 05 - 02:52 AM I am trying to get the songs burnt onto CD Mike. I will get back to you, if Radio Lincolnshire oblige. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 03 Nov 05 - 06:14 AM Hey Mr Villan, sir...will you remind them (Radio Lincs) that they said they would let us have a cd of our interview, too? I have contacted them, too, but if someone else nags them as well, it may encourage them to oblige! We thought JK's interview was great! I hope the folk slot lasts with the new presenter WW because it is a really good place to hear local music live. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 05 - 07:02 AM I will give it a try Rockhen. The ptroblem is, that the longer its left!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 03 Nov 05 - 07:25 AM Don't hold your breath. Words like doddering and dilatory spring to mind. When I did my live spot on BBC Radio Lincs I had to wait about three or four months for a CD, and then it was just the songs - no interview on there. Jane was a star. I knew she would be - great talent will out. :-) S:0) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 05 - 07:52 AM Yes its unlikely that the interview will get on CD. It did take a long time with yours Strollin', but you did get it :-) Never say never is my motto, and I will work on it. It's not easy, but will do my best |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Georgiansilver Date: 03 Nov 05 - 08:30 AM Even if not possible to get on CD, I am sure someone has taped it somewhere....tapes are somewhat easier to copy. Help anyone? Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 03 Nov 05 - 11:19 AM Thanks for that. We didn't get a decent quality tape but I will ask around and maybe transfer it onto cd that way. Maybe Radio Lincs will still deliver what they said they could. If not, it would be better if they made up an excuse in the first please rather than making people hang around and wait for something that was not going to appear. I will remain optimistic for a little while and who knows... |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: JK Date: 03 Nov 05 - 05:27 PM REFRESH....Thanks Les, be glad to accept the spot cu tomorrow!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 05 - 06:06 PM Thank you JK for stepping in after Martin and Elizabeth had to call off due to illness. So Wild Wolds Women and Jane Kitchen fresh from Lincolnshires very own Folk Programme both on tomorrow night (all women). See you there |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 03 Nov 05 - 06:24 PM Hey JK, if you want to use my piano, I am taking it. You are welcome to use mine rather than taking yours...I understand if you prefer to take your own or are playing your new guitar, instead. Look forward to hearing you, tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 05 - 10:12 PM HHHmmm its amazing how many famous and tallented people you get to meet in this area. I expect it will be another great evening at the Market Raison Folk Club! It would be nice to see some newbies in a sort of a learners slot though,as there arent many places locally that encourage those of us who might not quite have worked ourselves up to such a high standard as some of you guys have done. Would be quite a boost to the ego to appear with the likes of JK Rockhen,Cara T and G,et al. There must be somewhere for new faces to get the experience and thrill of a chance to learn art of performing to such a freindly and knowledgable audience. It would certainly be a thrill to help to bring on the next generation of musicians wouldnt it? Trouble is it would need a chap of vision and inexhaustable love of music to arrange matters and the only Les I know is already doing a reet good job at MRFC. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: JK Date: 04 Nov 05 - 03:25 AM Hi, TTT, I need to identify who you are tomorrow night!! I've thought about said dilemma and feel reaonably comfortable with the fact that Gainsborough, Lincoln and Epworth all provide singaround situations welcoming all...Have yet to visit Lincoln myself, as I'm busy supporting Les and Mr & Mrs. Sooz!!... I find the new 25 minute spots at MRFC a bit daunting myself, so I know what you mean, but...I basically agree with Les' policy and also agree he is doing a great job...it should inspire us to work harder, do you think??? 'Meet you' tonight..JK Having said all of that...I guess the first 25 mins, could be used as a time for several performers to give 1 or 2 songs/tunes to build up confidence...I don't know?? |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 03:47 AM Tim, thankyou for the kind comments. MRFC is purely concert style and requires a performer to be able to do a 25 minute floorspot or 45 minutes or more. I do not intend to change that format. However there are numerous singarounds out there where everybody gets a chance to sing or play, irrespective of what the standard is. Sometimes people feel a bit uneasy about going to a new club and partaking in the singarounds. The clubs mentioned below and reasonably local to North Lincolnshireites will make such people very welcome and you will not be excluded. Gainsborough Folk Club on Alternate Fridays to MRFC Grimsby Folk Club on alternate Sundays Epworth Folk Club on alternate Mondays Louth Folk Club on alternate Tuesdays Alford Accoustic on Alternate Wednesdays If somebody thinks they are ready to jump up a step and start doing 25 minute floorspots, then they only need to let me know and we can discuss how to bring them into the flock at MRFC. Normally, if they are ready, then I will probably get to know about it and will make the effort to see them live. I am always on the lookout for new performers and will always do my best to help and advise making that step up to MRFC. It goes without saying that a performer needs to be within the boudaries of what is acceptable at MRFC. I think you would agree that it is pretty varied to say the least. I personally cannot take on anymore than what I am doing at the moment. Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 03:52 AM JK thanks for your nice comments. Our post crossed. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Georgiansilver Date: 04 Nov 05 - 05:40 AM Proud to be a Yallowbelly comes to mind....I believe we are really blessed in Lincolnshire with a diversity of clubs and talent. There is always something going on if sought!....I particularly love Gainsborough club as the organisation (thanks again Mr and Mrs Sooz) atmosphere, encouragement, the welcome for newcomers and most of all the people who attend are so....how can I say it......RIGHT! that's the word...RIGHT! Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Ep' Eric Date: 04 Nov 05 - 06:01 AM I made a decent recording of Jane's broadcast on tape, but I can transfer it to CD if you wish. Just one snag however! It will cost you £1000 at least, cos that's what she's worth. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 06:10 AM Your RIGHT mike :-) On top of that you have the session clubs, where people can hone up on their instrument skills. Such places as Barton On Humber and Louth. Can't quite remember what days they are on. I am still amazed at the quality of folk music that exists in Lincolnshire and feel very honoured and proud to be able put such wonderful performers on at MRFC. Anyway, I will as usual be looking forward to tonights gala of beauties. That includes Cara of course :-) Not an eveniong to be missed!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 06:19 AM What can I say Eric!!!!! I don't even have a quid to my name, so will have to pass up the chance. Anyway welcome to Mudcat. Instead, I will have to listen to her lovely voice tonight, along with the rest of the flock. If you are coming along to support her tonight Eric, don't forget to bring your own drinks and food as there isn't a bar. Likewise it is now customary to bring candles along to give a glowing feeling to the evening. :-) Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 04 Nov 05 - 11:27 AM I didnt know Grimsby FC had room for beginers I must investigate. Will recognise me JK have watched you in admiration several times and am the one who always manages to make loud noise at quiet moment. Sorry everyone BTW. I was wondering where the next Kate Rusby will come from is all. Hey look at time see you all later |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 01:17 PM See you all there. Have a word with Dave Evardson tonight Tim |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 05 - 08:05 PM What a thoroughly amazing evening. A very special thanks to all the performers for making it such a smashing evening. Anybody got any idea how many different instruments were played tonight and what they were. And another very special thanks to all the people that came along. Over 60 people including the performers. Unbeleivable. Thought I was going to have to close the doors. Many thanks to Cara for donating 2 cd's for the raffle. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 04 Nov 05 - 08:56 PM We had a great time, and enjoyed playing once I got rid of large frog in my throat in first song! Was a great night, loved hearing the other performers, too. Feel as though we are starting to get to know more people too. A really special night, thank you all! WWW instruments stage piano, guitar, 48 bass accordion, cello, concertina,(damn, I've forgotten which type she used tonight, penny whistle...er better check with J about which she played tonight...she is multi-talented and it confuses me, which isn't difficult! Will let everyone else work out the other instruments played tonight! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: JK Date: 05 Nov 05 - 02:46 AM Great night Les...varied and very entertaining..Talk to you soon!!JK X |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 05 Nov 05 - 06:26 AM Wasnt it brilliant and a lot of the good vibes are from the audience so big round of applause for us too! It must be really hard to be in the top spot and then sit there for a couple of hours watching one excellent performance after another and wondering how high exactly you will have to lift your game. As always felt most welcome and even on chilier evenings there is definatly a warmth to all the people there that adds so much to the ocassion. Our apologies for running out before the end yet again, it is good for Charlie to see and hear music performed and she really loves it but she is five so maybe I expect bit too much from her? once again thanks to all for the music 'specially mellow cello chick and the ever lovely and truly beautiful JK,s Guitar! Oh and les. Same arrangement on the raffle next time mate ? only you can keep the hard centers. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: GUEST,the fence Date: 05 Nov 05 - 11:57 AM Louth folk club is every 2nd and 4th tuesday of the month, which can be a bit tricky in a 5 week month(two week break). It welcomes new performers and encourages you to improve with advice and tips coming from anyone you would care to ask. The encouragement and advice I received was fantastic, but saying that, Gainsborough is also of the same ilk. A wonderful club to visit and play, where the effort taken to get up and do something is appreciated as much as the people who come along on a guest night and perform for a fee. To be honest I like Market Rasen(Faldingworth) Club because I am able to sit relax and listen to some fantastic talent and diversity of music and instruments. Like anything, all clubs have their plus and minus. It must take a lot of effort to organise any of the above events and it is greatly appreciated by the people in the audience!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 05 Nov 05 - 12:46 PM Pitched it right there Phil. You really missed a cracking night last night. BBP ( who I called Audrey for some daft reason - a bit like Duncan Mcfarlane wearing somebody elses glasses without even realising LOL) reserved you and Myrtle seats. Never mind. Don't like the hard centres eh Tim - must be to do with the fillings then!!!!!!! I hope you are not too hard with Charlie - she does very well. You are lucky, my daughter went at the interval because she can only mange half the night. Did you like JK's new baby then Tim :-) First time last night for the didgeridoo (wheres me spellchecker - drat). Mike Dewsbury should have been there, and he could have joined in as Rolf Harris :-) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: GUEST,the fence Date: 05 Nov 05 - 06:25 PM Sorry about that Les, something cropped up that made it impossible to get there, doesnt happen very often, but when it does there is nothing you can do about it. And the worst bit of all is it didnt rear its head until about 1 hour before time to get ready. Never mind will see you at the next one, sorry to have missed it. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 05 Nov 05 - 07:51 PM Hey les, you never introduced me to corset-wearing Myrtle...I've just realised! I'll have to wait until next time to meet her! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 06 Nov 05 - 03:39 AM Corset wearing Myrtle didn't come. I think she decided to keep away from all the publicity she has received. :-) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 06 Nov 05 - 05:46 AM And there were 30 or so at Nettleham - around ninety people attending two clubs within five miles of one another on the same night! Must be some sort of record? FOLK MUSIC IS ALIVE AND WELL IN LINCOLNSHIRE! (And yes, that WAS shouting - with joy!) S:0) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 06 Nov 05 - 07:25 AM Hey up Les best looking concert organisor on the planet! Would you happen to have an e mail AD for the Grimdby FC chaps so can ask about stuff they have going on soon. As it is on different day to Faldingworth I trust this request will not lead to me getting uncomfy chair when next we come to the sticks to visit. EEEErrr I use FC in the sense of folk club, after my embarrassing conversation with some one at Saltburn FC,"Hello is that the football Club at Saltburn?" Answer hhhmmm no sorry!!!! Well the previous call to confirm dates was to a rugby union club house also about music so was easily confused, but rang her back and explained that I am an idiot then all was fine |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 06 Nov 05 - 07:36 AM Tim, your flattery will get you everywhere LOL :-) If you click on this link thread.cfm?threadid=85933&messages=7 (thread for Grimsby Folk Club 6th November 2005) you will find that I have created a link to their website. You should be able to get what you need from there. Comfortable seats are for the early birds :-) Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Myrtle Date: 06 Nov 05 - 08:37 AM Sorry to miss a good evening Les, was a bit tied up....nothing to do with the corset I hasten to add! Regards, Myrtle. PS look forward to meeting you another time Rockhen. |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 07 Nov 05 - 08:03 AM Maybe at MRFC on the 18th Nov? Julie Ellison's the featured artiste - get ready to be gobsmacked. One or two Gainsbronians appearing too. S:0) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 07 Nov 05 - 10:40 AM I hope to make it there, and maybe with others if I can hitch a lift with Twangy and family, hint hint! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 07 Nov 05 - 11:09 AM Yes Strollin' is not telling a lie. Julie is a class act and is being recognised all around the country. Not to be missed. Together with Steve Newton, Armoury Boys Skiffle Band, Stitherum and John Blanks, what more can one ask for. A cracking night in store. Does Mr Twangy drive a bus then, Rockhen? However, there is a little matter of Anthony John Clarke at Gainsborough Folk Club. Another class act not to be missed. I am sure Mrs Sooz will be putting a thread up soon on that one. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 07 Nov 05 - 12:20 PM Not bus but often have spare seat. No problem giving you a lift Mrs but sort out nearer time eh you know my memory is as old as the rest of me! |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rockhen Date: 07 Nov 05 - 07:24 PM No way! I am 74 and I don't look a day over 62....Keep your sense of humour and chill cos failing eyesight deceives you into not noticing any increase in wrinkles so as long as you are lucky enough to be healthy-ish, you can pretend to be youthful for as long as you have the strength, or can be bothered. Didn't you know continuous exposure to live music keeps old age at bay, anyway?! Sorry, Twangy, I should have asked you for a lift in person, really! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th 05 From: Rasener Date: 08 Nov 05 - 03:19 AM 100th post - first time ever. You are doing well for 74 Rockhen LOL :-) If you are 74, that must make me 150 :-) |
