Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rasener Date: 05 May 06 - 11:10 AM Well it won't be long now. Does anybody remember Bram Taylor as a presenter on Chatterbox back in 1975? See you all there, whoever can make it!!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 05 May 06 - 08:22 PM Hey we all made any more and you would have had to introduce a lower rate for those standing! I thought that that was a brilliant night mate well done again. Jane and John were so natural and their songs so lovely I could listn to them for hours and of course there is the added bonus of John being good to look at as well. I did notice that our Les was so busy listening he forgot to use his hook but dont think any one minded it this time (slap on wrist lol) WWW were so chilled out tonight and tight i was Impressed and I have heard them so many times now I begining to look like a groupie Hissy fit I absolutly loved I never heard them before and they were brilliant. One of there own songs about the loss of the hull ships was absolutly brilliant talk about grit in me eyes well done ladies. (Sorry if term ladies is annoying dont know what else to put) Now ther was some one else there at the end but I cant realy remember who it was or what they did they were so bland and unmemorable. Not! What a performer the guy is. if he had done another ten minutes there wouldnt have been a dry seat in the house. HE no slouch with guitar either and had variety with that little squeezy thing, you know the thingy that I can never remember what they are called? Oh well i am new to folk clubs so suppose will learn in time. And when i saw Mrs Terry int he car park I got all excited cos thought they were gonna play but they were just there to proveide the PA.Gutted ,butthey did do a very good job of it so suppose was ok missing them perform as well,You gotta pace yersen when you get to a certain age.(SAfe to say that for at leasst a fortnight) Cheers all was a great night once more. BTW cream crackered so sort out the spelling yerserlves good night all |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: JK Date: 06 May 06 - 02:57 AM Brilliant night!!....Usually tired well before the 'spotlight' guest (won't go into why!!!)...but I knew Bram would be brilliant...and he was...I could list all the reasons why...(great things in 'smaller packaging'I suppose??)....(I wouldn't normally make 'sizest remarks' but Bram did draw attention to height!) Anyway enjoyed performing with 'John Boy' and then great to sit and enjoy WWW/Hissy Fit and the 'Star'.... I slept with a clear conscience in the sure knowledge that I'd helped to feed 'Little Ruthie'this time too!!!..."Have a nice day all!"...JK..x |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Sooz Date: 06 May 06 - 05:00 AM JK - little Ruthie is 24 and well able to feed herself! (Its a great sales pitch though) 45 minutes was simply not long enough was it? SJ - you left your black book. We wrestled it back from Bram who was after nicking some of your worms! (Its here when you want it) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rockhen Date: 06 May 06 - 05:43 AM Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves playing and listening last night. Is great to hear such varied acts. Tim said it all as usual re the other performers...(and thanks Twangy for all your support for WWW...looking forward to you joining us with your amazing bodhran playing again for Caistor Celtic festival on May 20th...unashamed plug...!) I really enjoyed hearing all the other acts and the audience were great...very receptive and friendly. It was good to use the pa and G&T did a good job because it is a thankless task...you often get grief from performers about getting their particular sound right. I hope they didn't get that last night because they did brilliantly with such a lot of different styles of act. IT IS a pain having to use a pa and I think all performers would prefer not...but it is difficult to get the balance for volume, without it especially if, as in our case, there are several instruments playing over the voices. Thanks for a great night, to all concerned. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Travelling Audience Date: 06 May 06 - 07:24 AM By home time was tired (Like JK not saying why!!) but would have listened to a replay willingly....What a brilliant night. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 06 May 06 - 07:47 AM Thanks Sooz, me gammy legs needed to go home quick and me single brain-cell was overheating. :-) I'll pick up the Book of Worms when I bring you the cheque for Sarah & Doug. And yes, it was a great evening. I personally had a bit of a red neck on when I forgot which fret the capo should go on for 'Ghost', and Jane didn't latch on to my sad predicament, but I got sorted out eventually. Better Late Than Naked (as they say)! :-) However, the general standard was exceptionally high IMNSHO, and Bram was, as always, fantastic. What an entertainer! And thanks for the great sound Technical Tel. Although I've used PAs (some of them very large indeed!) for forty-odd years, my heart always sinks when I get to a gig and there's a PA because so many so-called sound men can't EQ acoustic instruments properly - they manage to get high quality guitars to sound like electrified packing cases - but Terry did a brilliant job, lovely translucent acoustic sounds and excellent balance for all of the artists, with no fuss and no feckin' feedback whatsoever. Diamond Geezer! S:0) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 06 May 06 - 10:17 AM The souns was good wasnt it? everything from cello to capo de mounted on wrong fret was great. Was just right ballance i had eyes shut lot of the time and was easy to forget there was a PA just great sound. Strollin didnt have time for me tuning lesson but I am sure I will get the hang of it soon. Its me ears they are so worn and batterd from being played by they not much good for hearing bum notes. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Linda Kelly Date: 06 May 06 - 11:25 AM we got home safely after a night in the car park -thanks to Dave for leaving the door open so we were able to avail ourselves of the facilities! We had a ball-what a fantastic night- thanks to Terry for the sound and for Les for the invite. Enjoyed all of our fellow performers -there was so much to take in! Thanks again and see you at the end of the year! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rasener Date: 06 May 06 - 11:49 AM Sorry I haven't been able to post until now, but a big big thanks to all the performers for making it such a smashing evening and a big big thanks to Gwenda & Terry with the PA - they did a great job. It was also very pleasing to see the audience enjoying the evening so much. I got so much excellent feedback. What a team effort :-) I am glad you are Ok Strollin'. Also pleased to hear it went Ok last night Hissyfit and that you got home OK. May the 19th should also be a very good evening, but first The New String Band at Corringham this coming Thursday night - definately not to be missed. And now to enjoy my Wedding Anniversary :-) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Pwitz Date: 06 May 06 - 11:52 AM Great night! Might come along again. |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rasener Date: 07 May 06 - 04:06 PM OK Rockhen, glad to see that you are going. I am hoping to take my daughters as well, so see you there. Not sure about Inge my wife. She has to complete a job and send back to the translation company before she goes to Holland on Friday morning. I am sure Sooz will organise something there for your daughters birthday. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: JK Date: 08 May 06 - 12:00 AM Would love to be at Corringham...but away to 'Bonny Scotland' until the 26th...Hope it's a good night...(Excuse my ignorance...as is so often the case...) why are they 'new now....are they reformed?/reshaped?/renewed?/revitalised?/...a 'result' of something recurring/occuring/appearing...please put my little mind at rest....JK |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Sooz Date: 08 May 06 - 02:43 AM See this thread for an explanation, JK |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rasener Date: 08 May 06 - 04:27 AM Very sad indeed |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 08 May 06 - 07:43 AM Indeed. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rockhen Date: 08 May 06 - 07:11 PM Just read the thread on the link you posted, Sooz. Always wondered why there were different variations on the NRSB name. Now I know. What a dreadful waste of life. It makes me all the more convinced that we should all live for today...not in the 'ignoring what effect our actions will have on tomorrow' way but just doing the best we can with the life we have been given, trying to enjoy it to the full, and hopefully treating others well along the way. Sorry, I sound pompous...I didn't even know either of the two musicians, but life can be very fleeting can't it? Guess we should all make the most of it. On a lighter note, if that is not disrespectful, I have reservations about the rumours I hear about the cruelty to accordion players at NWSB gigs...I will wear dark glasses and avoid all buckets of water... |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Sooz Date: 09 May 06 - 02:33 AM Can you play upside down? |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rasener Date: 09 May 06 - 04:07 AM Never heard that tune before Sooz!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Rockhen Date: 09 May 06 - 11:25 AM I've never tried playing accordion upside down...mind you, I think I am pretty safe as the rest of WWW are not that into weight lifting...and anyway, I make enough mistakes the right way up! Wasn't 'Upside Down' an 80s disco hit, or something similar?!!! |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Friday 5th May 06 From: Sooz Date: 09 May 06 - 11:33 AM Back to the drawing board then - we'll have to think of a different stunt........ |
