Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: JudyB Date: 01 Aug 08 - 10:01 AM Thanks for all your work on this, SINSULL, Jacqui and the rest of the team! I agree it would be wonderful if we could be outdoors - though I do confess to being a little concerned as sound crew about the part where I'm sitting on a huge pile of wires while lightning flashes and waves crash over the top of the little parasol I'm using to try to keep the board dry.... With a bit of luck the weather pattern will stabilize into something pleasant later today and any nasty weather will hold off until we're all safely at SINSULL's after the show, exploring the single malt. :) JudyB |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Siochain Date: 01 Aug 08 - 10:09 AM A few of the out-of-staters may well put in an appearance at the Pressroom this afternoon on their way to Maine. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Barry Finn Date: 01 Aug 08 - 11:00 AM That'd be great Siochain, make yourself known. See you there. And here I thought Gordon was the headliner. How come Micca breezes in to a area, gets to be the show piece, takes the cake & is off before anyone even know he's been to town. Who was that masked man??? Barry |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: adventure Date: 01 Aug 08 - 12:57 PM Oh dear....you all need to spend some time on a boat in close company. We are going to Barry Finn's set and standing up in the front row so no one can see him. Barry...being from Gloucester, I thought that Micca was a mineral that was used in insulating material. We are bringing 23 PA systems so if one gets wet we can change it.(big car) Kendall....I'm bunking with you....already did that, didn't I.....how soon they forget. Jeri...can you please bring some rolls and a small sheep???? They help with alergies and colds. "I'm never sick" We are bringing two new members who will be singing with us...Richard Cerebellum and Richard Hertz....who will dare to introduce these fine upstanding lads from Essex???? Portland will not be the end of the world....it will be the beginning of a new annual festival. By tomorrow morning all will have a focus on getting the job done. Mary, Jacqui and all have done a great thing here with the museum. Let's all row hard and make it happen(in the same boat) Like my Newfie grandmother said...."if you can't fish....cut bait!!!" Well.....let's get her done as they say. I love to park and drive cars!!!! I'll do that, too. The man from Camden knows where we park cars in Gloucester....in the harbor!!!! Funny story it is. I do love to park cars....just hand me your keys...Oh look there's JR going around in circles in a parking lot following me...we didn't get far. Anyone got a GPS?? So the moral to the story is "it's nice to be nice" Let's make this a great day and have some fun while doing it. So tomorrow will be fine and we will all work together to make this happen for those whom we dearly love and appreciate. Doryman and his mate |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: MaineDog Date: 01 Aug 08 - 02:10 PM I'm bringing my umbrella, Scottish cape, and boots. It won't dare to rain, just to show me up for a doubter! (should I brihg a chair?) MD |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: curmudgeon Date: 01 Aug 08 - 02:32 PM The car is packed, concertina and whisky stowed caefully as is the special aged cheddar. Picking Linn up at work then off to the Press Room, then heading north for a most exciting weekend. Hope Micca gets a ride to Portsmouth. See you tonight - Tom |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 01 Aug 08 - 03:40 PM The local paper (promised an invite back to my house to meet and interview some performers) has outdone itself. A top of the page listing on the weekly calendar, a story on the top right page further on and ANOTHER mid-page in a music section. All glowing promises of an afternoon of incredible music, an ideal outdoors location and the the wonders of the museum and the Snow Squall. The museum phone has not stopped ringing since about 10AM. One call from a "strange" man from Washington who was packing his car and scheduled to arrive Friday night so that he could have a good seat Saturday. Which one of our beloved loonies is that? And does he need a bed? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Becca72 Date: 01 Aug 08 - 03:45 PM The strangest man in Washington arrived in Kennebunkport yesterday... |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 01 Aug 08 - 04:05 PM I'm staying home tonight. I have a voice... barely. Actually, the singing voice is OK, but the speaking voice is a bit iffy. I think a voice coach might tell me to speak in a more 'musical' voice. I'm also still recovering from a fortnight of fun up north. I want to be able to sing on Saturday, not to mention enjoy the party afterwards, even if I'll have to eschew booze because I'm driving. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Micca Date: 01 Aug 08 - 04:14 PM Jeri, Mary says "Tell Jeri she has a bed if she wants it" |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Micca Date: 01 Aug 08 - 05:08 PM Most people slurp and swallow but feel free to eschew if you must. And there is a bed for you Jeri if you decide to stay. Mary. Note to all - you have beds but minimal privacy. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 01 Aug 08 - 06:50 PM Van is packed with sound equipment, tarps, contractor garbage bags, and Roll & Go miscellaneous stuff. We're as ready as we can be, and really looking forward to a great maritime festival. Last weekend was our Richmond Days Festival, which had a nautical theme as well. We really lucked out on two glorious days, and everyone is subsequently feeling great (but tired). There is plenty of room for improvement but we have definitely expanded the local festival to a higher level. Peter- It really would be nice to know what you were bringing for sound. We are bringing enough so that 9 mics will be operational, with two monitors so performers can hear themselves. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: maeve Date: 01 Aug 08 - 07:16 PM Kendall's pie is almost finished baking. The Other pie is wearing two pastry hearts to honor Jacqui and Sinsull, and a cluster of cherries in honor of Big Mick who needed a cherry pie. Micca has one slice reserved. Spaw can't have any. It's too healthy. I'll be leaving early in the morning, hoping to leave the pies at Sinsull's around 8am before finding my way to the festival. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 01 Aug 08 - 07:40 PM So I haven't pissed Mary off completely. That's good to know. Last night I slept in my own bed for the first time in two weeks, and it was good. Still, there's not having to drive home and being able to have a drink or five to consider. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 01 Aug 08 - 07:43 PM Cluster of cherries??? Should have been a lime green thong stuffed with a potato - I will explain, Holly. You are such a sweetie. At 8AM there will be space for the pies and someone to open the door. We have a surfeit of desserts so I will tuck the pies away. No point in over-serving this crowd. Let's see - tomorrow's breakfast at the museum is under control. As is lunch. We have soft drinks to sell but cooling them may be an issue if the museum's refrigerator is too small. Ice and coolers will be appreciated if anyone is able. Craft table is under control. Sponsor board is a work in progress as are parking signs, reserved spaces for parking, and and and |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: GUEST,BARK Date: 01 Aug 08 - 10:28 PM When I called the museum today, I was told to bring all of my own food because they hadn't been able to arrange for any concessions. Water and soda only will be sold. Bring own chair. After thoroughly exploring the So. Portland bus service, I can arrive an hour early or an hour late and must leave at 4:55 or stay at SMCC until Mon. Guess why I'm driving. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Aug 08 - 12:04 AM Gordon apologised to us for having to sing this evening to keep his voice in practice. Of course, we forgave him. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 02 Aug 08 - 12:34 AM We out-of-staters have arrived and are happily ensconsed in South Portland. We have come prepared with food and drink as well as our own transportation. I suppose looking after one's own needs comes with maturity and/or experience. We are grateful to have arrived. We are ready to contribute and to support the outstanding efforts of our fearless organizers. The real princess knew the pea was under the matress, and true pros don't whine. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: maeve Date: 02 Aug 08 - 05:13 AM I'm loading the car with pies and my sleeping bag. TL (bless him) took care of the raccoon patrol, and I'll be starting the journey to Sinsull's before aiming for the festival site. I plan to enjoy every drop of music. I may not leave the farm for another year, so I wonder if Gordon and all would mind singing into some gallon-size canning jars to be opened alongside saucy summer tomatoes in February? naive maeve |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Aug 08 - 07:44 AM I'm all packed and waiting for Becca to pick me up. Kendall wants to know what happened to all the single malt last night.............. I think he may need to wear his Grumpy tee shirt this morning. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 02 Aug 08 - 08:08 AM I'm going to assume the outdoor location is still a 'go' unless otherwise informed... or it's urainating. Weather.com indicates the 'isolated thunderstorms' aren't supposed to start until 1PM, so that's a good thing. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: adventure Date: 02 Aug 08 - 08:11 AM Kendall....almost two are gone and some from out of a trunk with 1/3 of a Laphoaig sitting on the table. Three hours of Scotch tasting until 2:30 a.m. ....and how are you this lovely morning??? The mouthwash was pretty good, too. Now to see if we all can sing. Oh, the poor neighbors and Colin's sleeping bag...the cat got it at 2 a.m. We had to take the blow up sheep out of the living room before we retired. Someone kept eye balling it. See you in a few. Doryman. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 02 Aug 08 - 07:08 PM Back at my house. Two separate sessions - one front room; one back. I am exhausted but all is well. The festival was wonderful. The Board has requested and audience with Jacqui and me. The music was incredible. We had a very good time. One couple really did drive from Wash DC just for the event. More tomorrow. SINS |

Wow do I wish we could be there at Mary's right now, there's a sing that is just out of this world going on there! John Roberts, Gordon Bok......just how wide is that ocean...get us there |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Aug 08 - 09:29 PM Judy and I just got back home after joining the party at Mary's house for another glorious sing and chat. We were worried mostly about the weather, and the bad weather held off until the evening. I'm sure the party will continue going until the wee hours of the morning. It was foggy in the morning but quite pleasant in the afternoon, and the view of Portland harbor can't be beat. At one point we were distracted, during Mark Bernier's set by the Cosmos, a giant super tanker blasting its horn and backing out into the channel, a tug helped push her nose out to sea and off she went, all in slow motion. Those of us doing sound had a merry time trying to keep a step ahead of the performers. All the performers were in high spirits, and the audience seemed very appreciative, and even some joggers and beachcombers were drawn in to listen. Anyway, thanks again to Mary and Jacqui for having the courage and determination to make this festival get off the ground. See you all again next year! Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Jeri Date: 02 Aug 08 - 10:08 PM Just got home. What I saw of the festival was good, and I felt good about my 2-song set. I missed a bunch because I didn't get there until 11:30. The party was absolutely wonderful (finally heard Gordon Bok doing "Capt Kendall and the Kitchen"), and there were TWO rooms full of music. Yeesh... I'm TIRED! |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 03 Aug 08 - 08:28 AM There will be pics gnu - in time. I got back home, courtesy of Deb and Tom, at 1.15am, in the middle of a very noisy thunderstorm that lit up my way through the house to allow me to leave the lights off and thus not disturb Kendall and Gordon, who had cried 'uncle' a lot earlier in the evening. We all up now and just about to head over chez SINSULL for breakfast. Yesterday was wonderful - we all had the best time. What a kick to have such a group of perfomers all enjoying themselves like that. One of the highlights was John Roberts and Davids Jones and Coffin singing together. David Coffin's daighter had the most incredible voice for an 11 year old. More later - Kendall's hungry. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Marc Bernier Date: 03 Aug 08 - 09:37 AM Great time yesterday. Thanks everyone. Sorry I couldn't stay and party, those of you who know me, know that I usually do Party. I unfortunately had to get home last night. I hope you enjoyed your selves. see you all soon. Micca it was truly a pleasure to have met you, I look forward to meeting you again. |
