Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 26 Oct 07 - 01:39 PM Yes, A.D. 2400 does seem a tad soon at one 'mark' an hour. I think the calculations might need to be checked again. Hmmm... Maybe it is Shane who will have 85 Billion 'marks' by A.D. 2400. Since he is on a spaceship maybe the slowing of time, relative to earth time, will allow this. Discuss. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 26 Oct 07 - 04:06 PM Horrors! Shatner: How come I'm not in new 'Star Trek'LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The original Capt. Kirk is disheartened he won't get to boldly go anywhere with his old pal Spock in the new "Star Trek" movie. While Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as the pointy-eared Vulcan in next year's science-fiction flick, William Shatner is not on board as Kirk. "I couldn't believe it. I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me," Shatner, 76, told The Associated Press on Thursday. "I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision." Director J.J. Abrams announced last summer that Nimoy would reprise the role he originated opposite Shatner in the 1960s television show and played again in six big-screen adventures. Abrams said Shatner probably would have a part in the film, which is due in theaters in December 2008. But while Shatner said he had a couple of meetings with Abrams, nothing came of it. Abrams' "Trek" film, whose plot is being kept under wraps by distributor Paramount, recounts an early adventure for the crew of the starship Enterprise, with Chris Pines as the young Kirk and Zachary Quinto as the young Spock. The cast includes Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, Simon Pegg as engineer Scott, John Cho as helmsman Sulu, Zoe Saldana as communications officer Uhura and Anton Yelchin as navigator Chekov, roles respectively originated by DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig. Past "Trek" films presented an obstacle to the revival of Shatner's Kirk, who died at the end of 1994's "Star Trek: Generations." But in science fiction, you can never truly say die. Spock was killed off in 1982's "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" then resurrected in 1984's "Star Trek: The Search for Spock," with Nimoy's Vulcan living on to co-star in three more films, two episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and now Abrams' new movie. "I've got a lot to do," said Shatner, whose current work includes the TV show "Boston Legal," narration for the Christmas spoof "Stalking Santa" due on DVD on November 6, and the prequel "Star Trek: Academy -- Collision Course," a novel chronicling Kirk and Spock's first meeting. Shatner says of "Star Trek": "Having been in on the creation of it, I was hoping to be in on the re-creation." |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 26 Oct 07 - 05:21 PM SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can they even THINK of not giving the Shatman a role in this new production? Are they bent on commercial suicide? Are they completely mad???????? Stay tuned for further disturbing revelations... |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Ebbie Date: 27 Oct 07 - 11:43 PM Are you serious about making money? I have a sure fire idea. Hear me out: My voice is low and my vocal range deficient. If you - any one of you or even a consortium - never fear, there will be money enough for all - figures out how to design a reasonably comfortable capo large enough to be applied to my throat, complete with instructions, I'm your man, so to speak. There is money to be made. Mind you, it will have to be guaranteed. No fool, me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Oct 07 - 09:56 AM What a great idea. The throat capo. I'll start working on it at once. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Oct 07 - 04:58 PM Got something in the works here already. Spring-loaded. I showed it to Chongo and asked if he would volunteer to be the first to test it out. He looked me right in the eye and said.... "You think I'm stupid, don't you? Take it to Washington and test it on George Bush instead..." As for the color, I'm thinking it might be nice in Avocado...with silver trim. Sort of an Art Nouveau approach. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Ebbie Date: 28 Oct 07 - 05:35 PM Oh goody. You're taking suggestions? I'm thinking along the line of little bells artuflly inserted. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 29 Oct 07 - 02:30 PM I was trying to find out how to insert something artuflly and was having no success. I decided to 'just f*cking google it' and this thread came up as #7 on the list of hits. I still didn't find any helpful info so we will have to figure out some other way to insert the bells. Maybe Chongo can help here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Oct 07 - 04:31 PM Chongo knows a fair bit about insertions. "Artful" ones? I'm not sure about that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: IWTATBM Date: 31 Oct 07 - 05:24 PM I think we'll never know about the dog. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 31 Oct 07 - 10:02 PM Take a piece of cord and make a double bight about a third of the way up from one end. Using the bit that dangles off the "up" bight, form a loop and begin wrapping the excess cord around the double bight. When you reach the end (of the bight or the cord), shove the bitter end under the "up" bight loop and pull to tighten the bitter end in the bight. The first, original throat capo. And the first knot I learned to tie after I learned to tie my shoes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Ebbie Date: 31 Oct 07 - 11:58 PM Oh, no, Rapaire. You misunderstood. I want this 'canary capo' to be under my own control, no one else's. I am not stupid. Am I? |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 01 Nov 07 - 09:26 AM You can tighten or loosen it as needed. The wrapped part permits the cord to slide nicely, tightening and loosening as you wish. I would recommend a silken cord and not the one illustrated, which would be too scratchy. (That really is the second knot I learned to tie. And you should have seen the nuns react when one of them walked into a classroom full of second graders who where tying them into the window shade strings. You can only imagine!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Nov 07 - 11:13 AM Rapaire, mah man! Are you another of those people who had to deal with a lot of nuns when you were going through the tender years of childhood and adolescence??? That must have been quite trying at times... I think it could go a long way toward explaining your present rebellious streak, this fondness you have for violence and implements of destruction, know'msayin'? (grin) |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: topical tom Date: 03 Nov 07 - 02:42 PM If one did the hose thing with Shane, Im afraid the beer would lose its head and tail off. That would be a bummer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 03 Nov 07 - 09:44 PM Nuns in grade school, Christian Brothers in high school, Franciscans in college. What do you think? Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 07 - 05:12 AM I believe that the Greys have turned "Shane" into an entree. Like Kobi beef, they were just getting him pickled enough to be tender, juicy, and tasty -- sort of a living marinande. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: IWTATBM Date: 04 Nov 07 - 06:41 AM When the Greys said they were putting him first he must have got the wrong end of the stick. Farewell Shane we will miss you. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 05 Nov 07 - 04:58 PM On a related note - what do you suppose was up with the guy who claimed he was named Shane McBride and was a member of the RCMP? He really sounded pissed (this was quite a while ago). I actually went to the RCMP site and tried to find him but came up empty. He said what city he was from but I don't remember now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: IWTATBM Date: 06 Nov 07 - 03:39 PM Seems the 85 thread is home to many mysteries KB. I wonder if one day, many years to come, some bright spark will provide an answer to the dog calling card mystery. Unfortunately it's unlikely that any of us will be around to appreciate the answer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Nov 07 - 06:02 PM There are probably several people in Canada named Shane McBride. McBride is a common surname and Shane is a relatively common given name. Someone I know actually knew a certain Shane McBride when she was in high school...and it was not the same Shane we know and love on Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 06 Nov 07 - 06:05 PM Perhaps it would be more to the point and less confusing if he were to be renamed "Shame" McBride. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 07 Nov 07 - 01:05 PM Except that I don't think our Shane showers regularly. Maybe it could be a sort of ironic nickname. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 09 Nov 07 - 08:29 AM I think we ought to change the boy's name to "Shane the Starsaver." Just think of his future in anime or in cartoons: "StS meets Yogi Bear" or "StS Meets the X-Men" or "The Inedible Hunk vs. StS." Goodnes, but the mind boggles at the very thoughts! |
