        Tom specialises in 'Northern swing fiddle' combining Scots/Donegal styles, with Newcastle hornpipes a speciality. He has a lovely flowing style, beautiful tone and faultless technique, and is also a fine singer with a powerful yet mellow voice. He has played with Bob Fox, Kieran Halpin, his own band Dabhand, & Alistair Anderson's Syncopace, as well as having a long-standing musical relationship with Chris Newman & Pauline Cato. He's played on many CDs, including for Richard Thompson & Barbara Dixon.
        The workshop, Tom's third for the Lewes Arms, will focus on rhythm, pace & style on relaxation techniques for performing. Music will be sent out in advance.

11.00        Rhythm, pace & style: how to make the music 'bounce' at slow speed with particular reference to bowing craft.

13.00         Lunch

14.00        The mystery of the hornpipe explained with reference to Newcastle & 'Swing' styles.

15.30         Tea/coffee break

16.00 - 16.45        Relaxation techniques and performance skills.

With new tunes written by Tom, tunes from Newcastle (James Hill) Ireland & Scotland.

N.B. Booking is recommended as numbers are limited. Refreshments are not included. Music, maps & accommodation lists will be sent in advance.

Places remain for the fiddle & whistle/flute workshops and a few tickets are left for the evening, but the guitar/bouzouki workshop is sold out.
