Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Willie-O Date: 23 Mar 07 - 11:16 AM Nice pictures Duane. Sadly missed by all who knew him. I have this theory, though that he didn't really die. I think he just crossed over and woke up to find himself in a hotel bar in Timmins playing "Green Green Grass of Home". Still miss him though. Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Duane D. Date: 23 Mar 07 - 12:18 AM I'm still missing the images I took at Rick's first Branford concert. When I locate them and upload them to my flicker pages I'll let you know on this thread. I must say, the views counter on my flickr pages has been going crazy since these posts. I'm used to 5 or 6 views per day but since this thread started, my total number of views has increased by nearly 500. I hope you've enjoyed the images, I'm totally content to share them. They are all very special to me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: GUEST,Arnie Date: 22 Mar 07 - 09:24 AM Nice to see those pics. Coincidently me and my wife Kathy just recorded a song that we learned from a tape that Rick lent us of Washington Phillips - "A Mothers Last Words To Her Daughter". He was emphatic about us listening to that recording. He believed along with his friend Andy Cohen that he played an instrument called a dulceola - but it's now thought that he used zithers on those records. Anyhow my thoughts recently turned to Rick because I know He would have enjoyed the Delmore, Macon and Poole stuff we did too. He was one of the few folkies we could talk to about our fasination with the old music we like. We miss him around here. Arnie Naiman |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Jeri Date: 21 Mar 07 - 08:42 PM LEJ, THAT's a little extreme! (That 'K' key shore is close to that there 'M' key, idn't it?) I remember Rick and the Dumpster Divers, but I don't think anybody got a photo of that. On Monday's Acoustic Workshop, Heather played one of Rick's live concerts - at the Sounding Board. The only concert of his I saw, besides the Getaway mini-concerts, was when he opened for Tom Paxton. Too back nobody recorded that one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Lonesome EJ Date: 21 Mar 07 - 08:26 PM Thanks bbc and Duane D. Rick was a fine fellow. I kiss his humor around here. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Mar 07 - 09:45 PM Well, what the hell...........I might as well throw it in once again. Its been three years today and we might as well continue making this a tribute of sorts(:<)) Back in early '99, in the midst of having a long discussion on 12-strings where Rick gave out some tremendous advice, someone new to Twelves brought up tuning to standard pitch. Several of us gave all the reasons against it and Rick came in and put up a real winner of a post, summing up in that way he often was so good at. Several people come in and thank the bejesus out of him and he then capped himself (not uncommon) and told the following story showing we all were young and dumb once. The story cracked me up......It was classic Rick and also was like a scene from a sit-com! Rick didn't title it but I did.......Anyway, here it is now as he told it then........ THE TALE OF IMPLODING PEDRO "Each of my 12 strings has it's own little memory but the worst was "Pedro" the Mexican built beauty that I bought when I was about twenty. The salesman said it was built to be tuned to pitch and I foolishly believed him. Now the problem was that my girlfriend at the time felt (justifiably so) that we should be saving our money, so when I purchased "Pedro" I snuck him into a closet for the night, planning to tell her about it the next day.(after I had thought up some story to justify my purchase) About 5am, a noise like a bazooka woke everyone up with a start in our communal rooming house. People were searching everywhere for the source of the explosion......but in my heart I knew what it was. I let someone else find the broken pieces of wood and wire, but I had to own up to it. Needless to say I got yelled at, AND lost Pedro one day after buying him!" |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Duane D. Date: 20 Mar 07 - 09:22 PM Thank you, all of you, for your comments. I just uploaded a very special image taken by bbc of Rick giving me a guitar lesson at Barbara Shaw's home the morning following his first concert for the Branford Folk Music Society. You can see it here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Big Mick Date: 20 Mar 07 - 08:31 PM Actually, Jerry, I believe his last concert was in Windsor with Mose Scarlett. I was there that night. But whenever his last concert was, these are very special phot's and I really appreciate beebs (I can call her that) and Duane putting them up. I miss that man almost daily. Every single time I start practicing I can hear him in my head. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Mar 07 - 06:47 PM Thanks for posting these, Duane. The photos are very special, as this was Rick's last concert, and I felt very honored to be there. It was typical of Rick that he would ask me up from the audience to do a song... Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: bbc Date: 20 Mar 07 - 03:59 PM Hi, folks, I just got home from work. What fortuitous timing. I had temporarily forgotten that Rick died on my birthday (I think I blocked that out). I'm so glad that we can honor him with these photos. Duane put up more since my first post this morning, so take another look. Rick was a great guy, but he was not very photogenic. I think Duane got some of the best photos I've seen of him. If you go to my flickr page, you can also see one of the two wooden inlay portraits that Dharmabum made of Rick--really beautiful. We won't meet another like Rick; it's good to remember him. love, Barbara |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick Fielding photos--nice ones From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Mar 07 - 02:42 PM Rick was a fine friend to anyone on the 'Cat, always ready to help and talk and laugh and give that moral support and love. I don't know a soul who doesn't miss him. Thanks Beebs and to Duane too of course. There are also some great pics of Sandy an Caroline along with David and a pic of Jerry Rasmussen playing Rick's "Woody." Spaw |
