If you don't already have a logo for your herb business, what better way to remember the cows than by using a portrait of one on your business cards, signs, letterhead, etc? I can just see a happy cow with a wreath of herbs round her neck.:-)

Hugs! It must be difficult to lose such an important part of yourself, apart from the loss of the work itself. Just talk to everybody you know - you never know what ideas they will have for you. Hope working with herbs can make up some for the cows.

   You might like to try this.

1. Page of A4.portrait rather than landscape way round.

2. Vertical line down the middle. (No,not what you think)

3. Write a short sentence of something you want now,left column.

4. Write your immediate (probably most negative) response,right col.

5. Repeat 3 - 4 - 3- 4 as much or little as you want.



   You may find that as you get out the most negative responses (it's like giving them the floor),they will slowly or steadily or gradually get weaker;could disappear;get replaced by neutral responses (keep going,like in Waiting for Godot);those in turn replaced by somethings more nourishing.


And of course,whether you try or not is entirely your affair.

My uncle works on a dairy farm and may be retiring next Jan, if you're after dairy work? Mind you, the commute is a bugger, he's in Dorset!

What Kat said a good few posts back. Let go of what is leaving your life and welcome the next bit in. The bad stuff can't stick around the good stuff for long, so work on that and the rubbish will go. I know all this stuff far too well. I am a fifty-one year old ex busker living in another country, where I do can not even write the language. I have just had the sort of month financially that I used to dream about. I wish you the same and I believe you can have it. Let us hear about it as the good news starts to come in again.

Good things happen when you least expect it! Billy was made redundant 5 years ago, lost count of the letters and applications he sent.Then he started doing odd jobs for clients of mine ( little old ladies who knew him and did not want to get a tradesman in to fix a door or paint a shed) he really enjoyed working in the fresh air and also got really fit.
Last September he bumped into an old friend who asked him what he was doing, odd jobs!! Rubbish he said. Phoned next day with an interviesw with his company and now Billy is a man in a suit with a company car and a big grin on his face,put some weight on though so we have started walking in the evenings.
Go with the herbs, I am sure you wont look back.

Do you have enough land to keep a cow or two of your own, or of someone else's? I know someone who keeps watch on a small herd, spring to late fall, basically she just makes sure they are all right, and reports births or problems to the owners.

Being slightly (ahem!) older than you, I know how gruesome it can be looking for employment, but be optimistic - there are niches out there for us, some of them very interesting. List your skills and try to think who might need them. I've found work on movie sets filming locally, at small museums, in craft stores, with small publications, in greenhouses, doing research, making costumes...

Anyway, good luck and sorry you have to say goodbye to the cows!

I wound up retired a couple of years earlier than I had any intention of, when the department at work was eliminated. More stress than a body needs. Do hope you can continue to find some involvement with "critters". Here, on this shoulder; this old shirt will dry out OK.               Dean.

As a (so far) survivor/refugee of the inexorably tanking non-profit sector, you have my heartfelt sympathy and best wishes. It os draery hard to leave a job that you love and have made such a personal investment in. My advice, for what it's worth: don't beat yourself up for ranting and railing a bit, you deserve to vent...take what comes next as it comes, but be sure to look after yourself.

Ebay, get rid of some junk that you no longer want, turn it into cash.
Have a look at the jumble sales, charity shops & car boots, it is incredible what you can pick up for pence that is worth large ammounts! If you have books to sell, check out ABE, for ebay items, type the item into "buy" then click onto "completed listings" down on the left hand side, then click "search" below it, that will bring up all the other sales of that item, showing you if it is going to be worth selling or not. Of course you would not copy & paste other people's descriptions to save time!

Trouble is, it isn't just the money and the being out of work. It's the loss of my lovely cows! I've worked in the dairy industry on and off for 30 years and it is part of me. My heart and soul. Now there are so few dairy farms left that the chances are pretty slim of me working with cows again. I don't think I can bear it. And these 12 little jerseys are all individuals and I will have to see them go....

Tricky but not impossible, and now you have the time to do it. Make every minute count.

I hope you can both find more work. I know that interviews are gruesome but I have a friend that was homeless at age 57 and is just now beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. She found work that she enjoys. Remember, you are too old to do anything you do not enjoy and too old to be treated with anything but respect. Expect nothing less.

Now's the perfect time to use your spare time in building up an image of what you want to accomplish. *Feel* what it is like to have it be a great success, really feel it; visualise it, even make up a poster board with images of success and keep a short, simple mantra in your mind to say when you start to get discouraged, i.e. "Success and Prosperity are mine." You don't have to believe the affirmation, just say it over any time you feel anxious. It will displace those negative feelings with positive and help your subconscious to focus on success.

Just when you think it can't get much worse...it does. Ok, epn was made redundant (for the third time) last Easter. Due to being nearly 50 he couldn't get another job. Finally got one about a month ago...18 hours a week. We are trying to expand my herb business and there is lots of market, but getting it going soon enough to make any money out of it this year is tricky. All this time I have been trying to keep positive. Little things keep occurring to make it all more difficult, the most recent being a sick cat who, so far has cost me over £100. It began to get to me and I was starting to feel really depressed yesterday. Now today, my boss has told me that they are finishing and for the first time in my life, I am losing my job. Ok...it was only part time and £50 a week, but we needed it...I feel really at rock bottom. Need some hugs.....
