Love these old threads....

Used to go and hear a great blues band in Newcastle (Oz) called Al Symer and The Forget-Me-Nots.

Then there was Bluey Zarsoff and the Zarsoff Brothers (Rocky, Terry, Bernie and others) who had quite a following around Australia for a few years.

Certainly nor wonderful, and scarcely performers, but my identical cousins: the player of the Washboard of Mass Destruction, Thimbles O'Hooligan, (thanks again Charlie for the name)and the blues singer ToneDeaf Lime Clinton, are worth a mention but definitely NOT a listen.

& I saw the Hank Wangford Band at the Trowbridge Folk Festival (a child thereof WILL happen this year) - lead singer was Irma Seetis (Melanie Harold) she was a sweetie.

A local shanty group is the Two Anchors (say it out loud).

During the Punk era, we used to rehearse in a record warehouse. I spent some happy times browsing the shelves but the only name which comes back to me was a band called "Throbbing Gristle".

Wasn't there also a band by the name of "Max Headroom and the Car Parks"?

In Milton Keynes, there's a bluegrass band with the rather inevitable name of The Concrete Cowboys.

And Floating Crowbar may have been the only band named after an electrical circuit.

There was a duo playing in Greenwich Village back in the '70's who called themselves "Free Beer".

When I was in High School 40 years ago we had a jug band called "Prendergast Farganswaller and His Merry Marching Society For The Preservation Of Insignificant Causes". I don't quite remember how I came up with that, but it stuck with us. Of course, there wasn't an MC in the world who could introduce us correctly.

In the four years since I last saw this thread I've remembered a band from about 20 years ago who did twangy guitar instrumentals. They were called Dalek Beach Party, and the line up was

Aaron C Rescue - Guitar
Dudley Serious - Bass
Howard Sway -    Drums.

The name Johnny And the Prison Didn't Help Boys has cropped up in the meantime, which is a name I recognise, because I'm currently serving a sentence as Mandolin Player in that selfsame band. Yes, we're all indeed long residents in Sheffield, but only one of us was born in that fine city. The rest of us range from Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Newcastle and Taipei.

I recall seeing Hezikiah slackbandy at the bishops Stortford folk club, several years ago, he was acompanied by 3 girls appropriately named "The fabulous Slackettes", they were excellent, it was a great night, Hezikiah returned later without them and it was not as good.

We were always quite proud of "Blind Panic" as we could use it variously to describe how we reacted to the audience or their reaction to us. It also went well with our compliation album "Panic measures".

I thought I caught a reference to another band having started up calling themselves the same name recently, which could cause confusion.

There was a punk band in London that started to use the name but changed when we told them that we were already using it.

I once shared a performers' shuttle bus with a klezmer band called "Mrs. Toretsky's Nightmare."
There was a woman on the bus who was coming as a guest of the band. Turned out, she was married to one of the band members, a guy with the last name "Toretsky." And SHE, of course, was "Mrs. Toretsky."
That's been one of my favorite band names, ever since.

Not musicians but a colleague used to collect interesting names of actors and other theater folk. Some favorites: Stroke T. Renigade, Rockets Redglare, Suede Ong and Arwulf Arwulf.

Six Hands in Tempo did a 25th anniversary reunion gig recently at Carrington Folk Club, and were still good.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are good too.

I recently bought an album by Deaf Shepherd, mainly on the basis of the name - a reference to Def Leppard, in turn a reference to Led Zeppelin). There is also a Tone Deaf Leppard, I think.

Rocky Sharpe and the Replays had a female singer called Helen Highwater. And she was very good indeed.

Reading some sleeve notes yesterday, I came across a reference to someone called Monika Pramstaller.

I have a rockabilly album by Johnny Legend and his Rockabilly Bastards.

There's a very good anarcho-punk band called the Rudimentary Peni.

Someone else mentioned the skinhead musical quartet, The Four Skins.

Then there's the plainly descriptive "Screeching Weasel".

A friend uses the nom de plume of Quince Cheese. I have sometimes toyed with the idea of building a "punk" Morris Fool's persona around the name "Dreadful Tosh".
