Subject: RE: New Session in Chester UK From: terrier Date: 16 Apr 10 - 02:30 PM Advertised as "Open Folk/Acoustic Night". What does that imply? As soon as I see a phrase like that I just think "open mike". Call me old fasioned, but if I'm going to be bothered going to an event more than a short walk away from home, a meaningful description would help. In fact, these days, as soon as I see the word 'folk', I'm immediately suspicious. Sorry, must have had a tiring day :) |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester UK From: Mo the caller Date: 17 Apr 10 - 11:04 AM I think it means 'whoever turns up does whatever they think is folk'. The Chester sessions can lean a bit towards guitars and singers but no-one objects to tunes either, if you play one they know they'll join in. (Or maybe that's a wrong impression; we don't go regularly). I thought an 'Open Mike' was amplified. These aren't and it's a 'plunge in' not a 'round the room' format. |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester UK From: Mr Happy Date: 27 Apr 10 - 06:11 AM 'In fact, these days, as soon as I see the word 'folk', I'm immediately suspicious. :) ' Agree - is why I named our sesh at the Carlton a 'Come-All-Ye' Having little clue what 'folk' is, we just do songs & tunes that grab us! |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester UK From: terrier Date: 27 Apr 10 - 01:23 PM It was an 'open mike' BTW, so we decamped across the road to A.N.Other pub. |
