I'm lookin for a song from the 60's, can't remember artist, title or yr., but it's about a man named Jack Johnson, who snuck onto the Titanic, and was sitting on the deck smoking hemp-rope as the ship sank. If you have ever heard it, or know ANYTHING more about it, please E-mail me @ Nickdd@ufl.edu. Thanks

The song is by Jaime Brockett. It is called The Legend of the USS Titanic. The entire text (more text than lyrics in this song) can be found at:

Lyr Add: LEGEND OF THE U.S.S. TITANIC (J Brockett)

And he walked around the wheelhouse once...

Whoa...Don't have a cow...I whupped up. I had to go pick up Michael from school and I must have hit the send by accident as I went down to go offline...SORRY!!!!!!!

We all often say something is a "Good Old Song" and though I know that's a matter of taste, I wonder if there is any one or more things that we all say about a song WE consider to be a good old song? This ought to be another thread, but I thought I'd ask here first.

The song has some of the funniest lyrics I've ever heard, plus it's real soulful. THAT is what makes a good ol' song. Dwditty, I can't thank you enough. You're a Godsend

to me a good old song is one that is old to me or maybe even old to the century that makes me feel. What i feel can be motion or emotion or "that's a really cool line" or "love that little lick" or . . . i thinks it very personal. But Songs that i think are good old songs and that i start playing and then perform become songs that other people notice or like, too. Or even don't like. Depends how what they are feeling.
One of the fun things about playing in a band is that similarilties of taste develop so that my mandolin picker can bring me a tape of "some good old songs" and I know that i will, for sure, love them.
And what fun! There seems to be no end to good old songs. There's a ton of them.

Just a note: Art Thieme did a beautiful version of Leadbelly's song, which is quoted at the website noted above, as Leadbelly added the verse about Jack Johnson. It was on Art's "Songs of the Heartland". He just sent me a tape of it and it is really wonderful. Beautiful voice and wonderful pickin'!

Thanks, ART!
