Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 06 Jun 07 - 11:45 PM Well, glad that's over - what a crock. Nice article today at FOX Sports on Betteman(sp?) and how he really mucked up the NHL. I didn't get into the politics of what was going down when it happened, but according to this author, G.B. is to blame for the demise of the NHL as it was and as it was headed. No, I am NOT a FOX news person but their sports page is not bad, and, it is another source. Looking forward to the 2008 hockey season and the run for the cup. GO RED WINGS!!! Cheers - from Hockeytown South. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 06 Jun 07 - 10:19 PM Poooooooor Sens...... poooooor Emery..... Yes, I have it all on tape. Whole series in fact, and a lot from previous rounds. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 06 Jun 07 - 09:04 PM Well.... forget the crap penalties. It is the Duck's game. If they can't even "put the puck on the net" on a power play, all is lost. If they do pull this one out, I'll be very surprised. Only way they might is if they decide to control the puck on the way in instead of just slapping it into the corner. Or, at least, PUT THE PUCK ON THE NET... gee! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 06 Jun 07 - 08:37 PM Hope you got those crap penalties on tape. Pretty hard to compete wehn it's 8 guys against 5. Oh, and.... where is the marked man? Well.... he is not on the ice and not on the bench. Last time I saw him, he was on the ice on his knees. Nice hit(s). Tit for tat? |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 06 Jun 07 - 08:11 PM Agreed. Taping in progress, ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 06 Jun 07 - 08:08 PM **** a duck. Well, this is REAL hockey. Don't get no better. Well, 72, but, that was different. This is for his Lord's cup! The Holy Grey Owl, eh? This oughta be a gooder, no matter what happens. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: 3refs Date: 05 Jun 07 - 03:22 PM What Alfredsson did, shooting the puck at Niedermayer, is far more dangerous than an elbow to the head. Agreed, Pronger gets a little mental irregularity periodically and his brain doesn't seem to match his body size! Alfie seems to fly in just under the radar on most nights. Never seems to do anything that the refs catch(because he watches them) or the league feels requires supplemental punishment after revue, but he is a dirty player all the same, and just as dangerous! I've been at this game for over 45 yrs and refereed for much of those. I'll take an elbow over a puck any day!!! Go Ducks Go!!!!! P.S. as I've stated in the past, a Europian has never captained a Stanley Cup Champ!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 05 Jun 07 - 06:21 AM Okay, slight change in plans. Going to seven games will sell more beer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 05 Jun 07 - 12:33 AM Pronger is little more than a "cheap shot" player and his ilk need to be banned from the sport. He doesn't deserve to have his name on a cup - any cup, much less the Stanley Cup. I really, really dislike the Anaheim Sucks. Cheers,...and, GO RED WINGS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Jun 07 - 09:52 AM Thanks for the description and the bookmark, gnu. We really like the cuurent ad campaigns-- the NHL's that shows players off the ice having a lot of fun: "They're just like you and me, plus they're really good at hockey." And the other series, not NHL-sponsored, that shows wannabe's getting taken down a peg or two: "You wouldn't make it in the NHL." Hilarious! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 04 Jun 07 - 07:16 AM Re the bedsheet ad. I think it was John?? Could it have been Eddy? My memory ain't what it use yo be, I think. Anyway, Susan, the TV commercial: This big tough hockey player wakes up. The coloured bed sheets have a dainty floral pattern trim. As soon as he opens his eyes, he looks at the flowers and smiles contentedly. Then, he looks at the camera and says something like, "Hey, it means I'm not in the hospital." Or something like that. My memory ain't what it use yo be. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: Beer Date: 03 Jun 07 - 08:27 PM Remember the so called great fight expectation that was going to happen between Shack and Fergie? The game took place an if memory serves me right They bumped into each other and when Fergie looked his way and made a move, Eddy took of for the bench. It was a great laugh. When I look back now I see Eddy as being just a great guy that was really just having fun. Can anyone remember this one: On Coaches Corner, Don Cherry is shown standing with his arms in the air and egging at the crowd. I remember him doing this in the televised game but can't remember who it was against or what caused the moment. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 07 - 08:27 PM Never saw the bedsheet ad but thanks for the explanation-- I'll add it to my "Studying Up On Canadia" folder. :~) ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 03 Jun 07 - 06:42 PM Yes, Beer! I belly-laughed every time I saw it. What a guy! I recall a TV interview with him where he said he prided himself on never throwing the second punch! We use to call him "The Big Stick." Gosh... Jean Belliveau, The Rocket, Eddy Shack, Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull.... countless names come back to my mind... Go Sens! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: Beer Date: 03 Jun 07 - 05:19 PM Like the hit on Holmstrom no doubt Pronger will say it was accidental. One game, not enough. Sure do remember the bed sheet commercial. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: gnu Date: 03 Jun 07 - 04:00 PM Well, of course he will be allowed to return! It's a Canuck thing. How else would the Sens be able to get a shot at the b*****d??!! Tit for tat. He is a marked man. Where is John Ferguson (fill in name of your favourite enforcer) when you need him? Hehehehe.... anyone remember the TV ad John made about the bed sheets with cute flowers on them? |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 07 - 03:04 PM Ducks' Pronger suspended for one game NHL.com Jun 3, 2007, 1:52 PM EDT OTTAWA -- Anaheim Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger has been suspended for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final for a blow to the head of Ottawa Senators center Dean McAmmond Saturday night. The incident occurred at 2:01 of the third period. No penalty was assessed. "A variety of factors were considered in reaching this decision," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "Mr. Pronger used his forearm to deliver a forceful hit to the head of his opponent. Also, his actions caused injury to his opponent." Pronger also was suspended previously for delivering a blow to the head of Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom in the Western Conference Final. Pronger will be eligible to return for Game 5, Wednesday at Anaheim. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 07 - 10:34 AM I think so too. I think they may end his personal Cup run with a multi-game outage. Like they said in the commentary-- he knows's he 6'6," and he has to control the body he has. "I was finishing my check and I dunno what happened after that" is less than taking full responsibility and evincing remorse. They oughtta whack him for the rest of the series, for that attitude. Then the Ducks can whine about the bad NHL suspension for losing the Cup. Save Duckface. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: bobad Date: 03 Jun 07 - 10:15 AM I expectthat Pronger will receive at least a one game suspension but should get more as he is a repeat offender. |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jun 07 - 10:06 AM Yup. Pronger sure plays differently this year than he did last year. I didn't like the smirky face after that McAmmond hit. I don't mind rough hits, or fights, but I don't want to see McAmmond miss his chance to lose to the Pens next year. :~) And whiny? (Geeze, they say Sid the Kid was in his rookie year.) But I spell that G-E-T-Z-L-A-F. ~Susan |

Hehehe... Not to worry, my dear. This is an old Canuck ruse. Lull them into a false sense of security by letting them win the first two games. Of course, it also goes with the old Canuck business ruse, which is, sell as many beer as possible and let it all hang out in game seven. Of course, it will probably be in game six... at home. In any case, the old saying is, "First game don't matter... last game does." Okay, I just made that up, but it's true. G'Ottawa!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: Mooh Date: 29 May 07 - 01:06 PM I'm always gonna cheer for a Canadian team or an "original six" team after the Leafs choke. Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 29 May 07 - 10:06 AM Here's how we resolved the tricky business of rooting for the team that washed our Pens out in the first round. Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: wysiwyg Date: 28 May 07 - 07:39 PM 101, and here we go! Versus has some cheesy pre-game archival footage all week, and a few old hockumentaries on the non-game nights as well. Oh, the footage is great, but it's hosted by Al Smarmwig and that alone qualifies for the Mortadell Award. I hope the coverage in Canadia is better! I'm taping if anyone wants to swap (PM me) for Canadian-coverage DVDs. But anyway-- here we go! GO SENS, and murdellize them Ducks! (Plank 'em!) ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: bobad Date: 23 May 07 - 03:13 PM OK TG, time for your geography lesson. First off, Quebec is a province in Canada and Quebec City is it's capital. The capital and seat of federal government of Canada is Ottawa and the senate comprises one branch of it's government, hence the Senators, whose logo is a Roman centurion - go figure. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2007 From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 23 May 07 - 02:08 PM A sad, sad, day in Hockeytown South. As stated several days ago, I really do dislike the ducks and their cheap-shot style of play; also, having heard an inteview with the Senators head coach - I like him a bunch - not on game day against the Wings; but, I like him. So, I guess it's down to GO SENS!...and enjoy your Duck Soup. By the way, my wife asked me the other day - why do they call them the Senators? I thought for a minute and came to the realization that I don't know. Quebec is the capital of Canada, right?...so is Ottawa a provincial capital?...or am I missing something here and haven't got the slightest idea as to what I'm talking about? Cheers hockey fans - especially you wing-nuts out there. |

Wrong! The Cup has never been won by a team with a European captain! So it looks like the Ducks! |
