Folkies in the UK will be sad to hear (as i was) of the passing of Jean Lee of Leeds.

Jean, together with her with husband Jim, has been a stalwart of the folk scene for many years and despite health problems, they managed to get to an amazing number of festivals every year.

I have as yet no details as to cause of death or funeral arrangements but I will post these as soon as I have them.

My thoughts are with Jim and family

Hazel Bolton

Hi Hazel,

I would have responded earlier, but only heard about Jean in an email I received today. I'm just so sad - she was a lovely, cheerful, funny lady, who made everything brighter by her presence.

Saddleworth won't be the same without her - like many other festivals I guess.

I spoke to Jim tonight but he still doesn't know when her funeral will be - I'm sure lots of people will support him.

Ali

Yes It is hard to believe Ali. I saw her and Jim a few weeks ago at the Darlington Spring Thing and she was so full of life.

Constant laughter and joy is what Jean makes me think of. A wonderful and courageous person.
Please pass my condolences and love onto Jim.

what awful news.
Jean was always so cheerful and full of life and not afraid to heckle in her inimitable way and she had one of the dirtiest laughs I've ever heard. I have so many good memories of singarounds with her and Jim at Cleethorpes and so many other festivals. Willy workshops won't be the same without her presence...there will be a space in the corner. My last memory of her is at Saddleworth last year when I pushed her up the hill to the civic centre because "the old bugger can't manage it these days". Jim..if you have access to this...my thoughts are with you. Wherever she is now she'll still be sorting somebody or some thing!!! I have no contact number for Jim so if anyone could pass this on I'd be grateful. Any news of the funeral...unfortunately I'm on holiday for a week from tomorrow so if it's next week I won't make it.

My condolences to Jim.

Have only just found this thread, and am staggered at this sad news. I too only saw Jean a few weeks ago, at Darlington, and yes she was as lively as ever. She was a lovely lady, who brightened many a dull day with her cheery presence, and she will be very much missed. To Jim - sincerest condolences, and loving, caring thoughts, from me an' th' lass.

Jean was a great stalwart of the Leeds and Yorkshire (and Cleethorpes) folk scene

She had been wheelchair bound for a year or two and a very keen Wilson family fan ~ can someone confirm that they know please as they will be devastated

Jim Lee lovely bloke will be heartbroken

She will be sadly missed at festivals

Ray

Just heard the news tonight only sorry I can't make the funeral. Jean was a great folkie and fellow reprobate nicotine addict. Please give my sincere condolences and if possible a hug to Jim

A very quiet cremation saw Jean laid to rest but Jim is hoping for a Memorial Day later in the year when many more folkies can celebrate her life and love of the songs and the music.
