Subject: Lyr Req: Silver Sands (or) No more Sailing From: GUEST,Shanty Kees Date: 11 Apr 07 - 05:08 PM I recently heard The McCalmans sing a (for them)new song. I'm not sure of the title, don't know who wrote it and if the words that I have are correct. Is there anybody who can help? Thanks in advance. Here are words, as far as I know: ==== Silver sands on the horizon, through the wave we're homeward bound, As the gulls wheel above us, and the wind makes no sound, There's the harbour in the distance, and I dreamed of this day, For I'll love no other, and here I will stay. Chorus: No more sailing, never more to foreign lands, For my love's a-waitin' by yon silver sands of (Morah????), And I never leave those high hills again, And I never leave those high hills again. When the first snows of winter lay on the ben, I gave my promise to come back again Oft the seas were so cruel and the winds were so high, And oft times we thought boys that here we would die Fare thee well to my companions, may we meet again, Every hour brings us closer to my journey's end, Now the sun sinks behind me and it's light bades the shore, And I'll sing of Scotland, and wander no more. |

Subject: Lyr Add: NO MORE SAILING From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Jan 12 - 01:51 PM NO MORE SAILING Written by Lex D. Hall As sung by The McCalmans on "Coming Home: Live" (2009) 1. Silver sand's on the horizon; pull away; we're homeward bound, As the gulls wheel above us, the wind makes no sound. There the harbour in the distance and I've dreamed of this day [or "bay"?]*, For I'll love no other, and here I will stay. CHORUS: No more sailing, never more to foreign lands, For my love's awaiting by yon silver sands Of Morar, And I'll never leave those high hills again, And I'll never leave those high hills again. 2. When the first snows of winter lay on the ben, I gave my promise to come back again, But the seas were so cruel and the winds were so high And oft times we thought, boys, that here we would die. 3. Farewell to my companions; may we meet again. Every hour brings us nearer to my journey's end. Now the sun sets behind me and its light bathes the shore, And I'll sing of Scotland and wander no more. [* There is a tidal bay at Morar.] |

Hall 'The silver sands of Morar have inspired many songs of love and longing this is one of the best.' Silver sands on the horizon pull away we're homeward bound Where the gulls wheel above us but the wind makes no sound There the harbour in the distance and I've dreamed of this day For I'll love no other and here I will stay. chorus: No more sailing never more to foreign lands For my love's awaiting by yon silver sands of Morar And I'll never leave those high hills again And I'll never leave those high hills again. When the first snows of winter lay on the ben I gave my promise to come back again But the winds were so cruel and the seas were so high And oft times we thought boys that here we would die. Fare-the-well to my companions may we meet again Every hour brings us nearer to my journey's end Now the sun sets behind me and its light bathes the shore And I'll sing of Scotland and wander no more. |
