Subject: Bowdoin Ruggers Want Songs From: Ref Date: 12 Apr 07 - 07:31 PM I was perusing a rugby blog earlier today when I came across a plaint from a Bowdoin College (US) rugby player who is despondent about his team not knowing enough traditional rugby songs. Even though I have issues with Bowdoin (GO MULES!) I couldn't ignore his plight. If anyone knows songs, can refer to previous related threads here, or can refer to songs in the DT, please take pity on this lad and help him out. It's hard enough having to spend the rest of your life explaining what Bowdoin is without being at a loss for a good song. I've referred him to this forum. |

Subject: RE: Bowdoin Ruggers Want Songs From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Apr 07 - 10:12 AM Maybe I should conduct a workshop at my old alma mater. Just think of those young rugby players, unable to raise a single rowdy song. "Row, row, row, my boat" just doesn't cut it compared with "Charlotte the Harlot" or "Balls as Heavy as Lead"! What do Colby College rugby players sing? Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Bowdoin Ruggers Want Songs From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 13 Apr 07 - 08:14 PM Just sing this old Bowdoin song- it's in Latin so no one will understand it- just say it disparages your opponents sexual prowess and the typical rugger fight is sure to start. Lyr. Add: ODE (Air- "Lauriger Horatius") 1. Caritate, amore Impleamus corda, Quoque obliviscente, Facta injucunda. Chorus- Nunc, canamus festive Fratres et sodales, Gratulantes mutue, Laeti et hilares. 2. Quamdin hic manemus, Juncti et fideles, Laude digni erimus, Nihil metuentes. 3. Nos fiemus validi, Mente copereque; Matri Almae ornati Multum sua spente 4. Fratres, gaudium nunquam, Deserat nos tristes, Semper habeamus spem Commodum cernentes. Songs of Bowdoin, Part 1, p. 129; "Carmina collegensia," 1876, Oliver Ditson. |
