Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Frogette Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:46 AM Talking about people who compete to have the most friends, can anyone beat "Tom" the administrator |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Surreysinger Date: 16 Apr 07 - 07:07 AM Sincerely doubt it!!! Wonder if anyone can beat Tom for the number of rejections of friendship as well??? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Apr 07 - 07:27 AM Some good stuff on myspace - YoungTorniquet are good (but beware, it's pretty hard rock) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: English Jon Date: 16 Apr 07 - 08:04 AM I've found it quite a useful site - it lets me keep in touch with my mates pick up new fans/sell CDs vent my spleen/indulge a certain creative element find new and unexpected music that I certainly won't hear in HMV. I think Sir John is right in as much as the target demographic is basically Kids, but it IS a useful tool - What amazes me is how seriously so many people seem to take it! Cheers, Jon www.myspace.com/jonloomesmusic, if anyone cares! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Snuffy Date: 16 Apr 07 - 08:49 AM It now says: Les Sullivan has 15 friends. It pays to advertise! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 16 Apr 07 - 09:16 AM What about having a Mudcat identifer on our Myspace profiles? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: GUEST,John Robinson Date: 16 Apr 07 - 10:15 AM Having sold CDs, concert tickets and started relationships with new venues (ooh er missus) myspace has been a useful tool. However, it is interesting that our YouTube channel now outperforms our myspace page in all those areas now, even though it is in embryonic form awaiting the "in progress" videos queued up in the studio. Maybe the link to the YouTube video drives traffic to the channel page. When sites like these are bought and sold for stratospheric amounts of money it does make you wonder how long they have to make their money before the world moves onto the next big thing. Unfortunately I suspect I'll never be in a postion to have to make those kind of decisions! For anyone interested: www.myspace.com/julieellison www.youtube.com/julieellison |

Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 11:20 AM "What about having a Mudcat identifier on our Myspace profiles?" I'd go for that but what if people started carrying "Myspace" IDs on Mudcat? Wouldn't be very fair to our hosts. hmmmm! We need a secret handshake. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 11:40 AM Which one of yous is Dave Gravis? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Barbara Shaw Date: 16 Apr 07 - 02:42 PM Jed, good idea. I just added Mudcat to my list of "influences." If you do a search for "mudcat" under the category of influences, all the mudcatters who have used this show up. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Apr 07 - 03:25 PM I missed the start of this thread, because I was away from home, visiting Les Sullivan and Frogette! I have now returned home and joined Myspace, but my invitation to Les to become my friend has not been taken up. Have I done something wrong, or have I omitted to do something I should have done? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: George Papavgeris Date: 16 Apr 07 - 03:47 PM Les has to accept the invitation, Kitty. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: mick p r.m s.c Date: 16 Apr 07 - 03:56 PM We got one friend. Good old Tom. Ciaro Town sample track off our new cd. Blow the wind southerly is not on our new cd but the girls in our shanty group did it anyway. Give the two tracks a listen. MYSPACE.COM click music, type in, walton on the naze shanty crew. Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:09 PM Thanks, George P - I'm just interested to find out how this works, because I've had a response telling me you've become a friend, but still nothing from Les! Nice to know that the friends I've met want to be my virtual friends as well, though! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:37 PM Go to your "Home" page. You know, the one where you update your profile. Check your own invitations to see if anyone has invited you. Accept or decline. Les has to do the same thing before he shows up on your page. THEN HE HAS TO COME TO THIS THREAD AND SAY "THANKYOU" TO EVERYBODY!!! Kitty: What's your "Myspace" address? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:38 PM I've placed Mudcat.org to my list of influences too. Seems to be the most appropriate. Second best would be ifsomeone wanted to create a Mudcat Group. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: GUEST,Drive Forever Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:56 PM Hi Jim, I am 'DriveForever'. Thank you for probably the nicest compliment I've ever received ! That really made my day. - Dave Gravis |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Barbara Shaw Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:01 PM For some reason myspace will not let me sign in! Herga Kitty said she got a response indicating a new friend. How do you get that? When I've invited a few people to be friends, I have to go hunt through my friends to see who's new, and I WISH I could get a response telling me someone has become a friend, or at least give me the friends in chronological order... Jed, I got the idea for "influence" from you. Then, after searching for "mudcat" I found dwditty. And ever since his comment on my page I can't sign in anymore... (THANKS, Rich!) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:02 PM Jim Lad - apparently I now have 2 friends (Tom and George Papavgeris) at http://www.myspace.com/180146641 ! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:34 PM Yes - Barbara. I've had the Mudcat.org listed among my influences for a while. I don;t know how many folks would cut and paste the link into their browser to see hwat Mudcat was all about, but I suspect the musicians seeing it there would do so ... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:45 PM Kitty |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:00 PM OK - I've sorted the logo thing out. If you look here You'll see I've listed Mudcat as an influence and I have posted the logo with the URL noted. If you click the logo it will bring you to the front page of Mudcat. Now - I need to be sure it's OK with Max to use his logo as such (he may have others he wants to use, or he may nopt want to attract that much attention). But if he likes the idea, we can build the HTML string and Mudcatters on Myspace who wish to, can post it on their profiles. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:22 PM OK, I now appear to have 4 friends (thanks, guys)! How do I register Mudcat as an influence? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:30 PM Crawl around in there for a while. Have a look at Jed's site. And write about yourself! Cheers Jim |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: George Papavgeris Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:34 PM Kitty, you opened an ordinary mySpace account - not a music one. That is why you don't have headings such as "influences", or the ability to upload tracks for people to listen to them. It is possible to conver to a music account, but I don't know how... You may have to abandon this one and open a new one. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:46 PM Well, I've asked for help to open a music account! K |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: jiva Date: 16 Apr 07 - 07:04 PM Good to see and hear y'all. We've made friend requests to Mudcatters who have posted their MySpace addresses. Ours is www.myspace.com/jivauk Cheers Jimmy & Val (jiva) www.jiva.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 16 Apr 07 - 07:42 PM I did not join MySpace as a performer but as a house concert venue. Can I still upload music tracks of those performers whom I will be booking to appear at my series ? SOL |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 16 Apr 07 - 08:25 PM My musicians address is http://www.myspace.com/folksingerjim . I'm just about ready to give up on Myspace. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgh! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 16 Apr 07 - 09:49 PM Yes SOL you can upload tracks for which you have permission to use. I am sure if an artist is performing at your place they'd be happy to have you post their tracks. Other venues like yours do this. I have a song on my profile that was written by Michael Troy. He gave me permission to post it (and to record it, but that another matter). |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: George Papavgeris Date: 16 Apr 07 - 11:04 PM That's it Jim, much better. Now I can hear your lovely music to make up for seeing your ugly mug! Kidding of course...:-) |

Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Jim Lad Date: 17 Apr 07 - 01:28 AM Thanks: I'll keep both sites while I make up my mind. I don't know about the rest of you but I found that to be a great deal more work than any other site! The next time we find a new Catter looking for friends, we'll be ready though. Cheers (and thanks for your patience) Jim |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: Frogette Date: 17 Apr 07 - 06:33 AM Kitty I couldn't find you on Myspace by your name and we didn't receive your request to be a friend. Not that you need to ask of course. I have now sent you a request after finding you from http://www.myspace.com/180146641. Les Sullivan says thanks to everyone for wanting to be his friend. I have posted some more photos and will try to put some music on. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: JedMarum Date: 17 Apr 07 - 10:59 AM For anyone wanting to add the Mudcat Logo to your Myspace profile (again, take a look at the INFLUENCES listed on my MYSPACE PROFILE to see what I mean) ... I have created the code to do it and a quick set of instructions. This is not rocket science, but I've listed the few steps carefully so it's easy to do for anyone with a Myspace profile. I have to send it to you via email because Mudcat does not support placing the HTML code into posts or PMs. So if you would like to post the Mudcat logo in your INFLUENCES at Myspace, please send me a PM with your email addy and I'll send you the code and the instructions (just a few quick steps). If enough people want to do this, we could probably get Max or Joe to set up a permathread or just a page with the instructions and code ... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Friends on Myspace From: MMario Date: 17 Apr 07 - 11:26 AM *sigh* like many sites, MySpace just isn't practical for those of us stuck with slow dial-up.
