HONOLULU (AP) - Legendary crooner Don Ho, who entertained tourists for decades wearing raspberry-tinted sunglasses and singing the catchy signature tune "Tiny Bubbles," has died. He was 76. He died Saturday morning of heart failure, publicist Donna Jung said.

He had a good sized theater around Waikiki. My wife (fiance then) sang there with a large choral group in 1983, but Ho was out of town then. He had to have been fairly young when he was first well known.

He had a long run. I heard an interview with him last year on the radio, still going strong. Rest in Peace.

If Don had just been nappy-headed, Imus could have lied his way back into his job....

Rest in Peace, Don...

About having other songs, "I'll Remember You" was one of his best. It was written by Kuiokalani "Kui" Lee who died young of cancer. Don Ho may not have had any other 'Top 40' charting songs, but he was a major voice in Pop music and always filled the big Las Vegas clubs when he played them.

He was billed as the Hawaiian Elvis and sported the pompadour and DA for a while.
Aloha!

Honestly, other than King Kahmaiah-Mahiah and Surfer Duke Komniohoku (Please frogive the Howlie spelling) I can't think of other famous Hawiians and the cast of Five-Oh does not count, except Zulu as Kono who was WAY COOL! Jack Lord NOT Hawaiian.

If you think of Hawaiian entertainers, Don Ho is the one and only name that comes to mind. If you think of Don Ho, you immediately think of Hawaii, and of one and only one song, "Tiny Bubbles." What other performer has that strong an association with one place and one song?
I think that's quite an accomplishment.
