Please let us know what is happening next year ASAP. We play as 'Ruff and Reddy, and we would love to impose ourselves on an unsuspecting Cornish audience. Good luck for this year

Hello Lucy

If you're still looking for artists I'm fairly local and could come along. I'm a folk-flavoured singer, play piano (I'd bing my own!) and play with a cellist. Check out www.maddiesouthorn.com or www.myspace.com/maddiesouthorn to see what we sound like and let me know if you're interested.
Best wishes
Maddie

Hello All,
As usual, Mudcat comes up trumps!
I would like to thank you all wholeheartedly for all your support and generosity in offering your varoius talents at out forthcoming festival. I am absolutely overwhelmed - Literally!
Though I would like to book each and every one of you, I am afraid I am going to have to say thank you, but NO MORE! Please! We now have a much fuller programme than we had planned and are delighted, but it would be foolish to overstretch ourselves. If you have contacted me and I have not yet got back to you, I am sorry, it is nothing personal, and you have been noted down for next year. If you would like to still come and join in the fun as a visitor, we would be delighted to welcome you.
I am so looking forward to the festival now and hope that I can make it as great for you as you have for me!
Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you
In deepest hunility at your kindness,
Lucy Burrow

Hello Bums - late at night for you.

Growler is right above that the drive will be at least 5 hours from Bude to Rochester on some little UK roads and a fair bit of motorway a fair bit of which will have hold-ups or road-ups.

Plop the two postcodes into the RAC route planner website and you will get an itinerary and an estimated drive time.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the Shiny Bums in Bude!!*!? Looks like fate to me & all with willing hearts. Hope an arrangement can be reached!

Growler and Melodeon-boy,

Can we work something out? Far be it from the Shiny Bum Singers from Oz to stand in the way of a good sing or the launch of something new, or an extra performance (for the rest - it is we whom they are kindly hosting at the Good Intent Rochester at noon on Whitsunday).

The Shiny Bums are performing for the Met Office in Exeter on Wed 23 May, and had then intended to work our way back east to Rochester via Chippenham and maybe Edenbridge or Battle, though we had no gigs arranged.

We are therefore on hand for Bude as an alternative, if it would work without in any way jeopardising the Rochester gig.

Since the main driving hazard for Aussies in England is not realising we are already approaching the opposite coast, our sense of time and motion for a zip from Cornwall to Kent may benefit from local advice. Could we, and maybe Growler and Melodeonboy too?, be in a concert in Bude on Saturday afternoon, and get back to Rochester that night in reasonable shape for Sunday? The Bums will have two hire cars between five, so lifts back should be possible if that helps.

Lucy - if it works out, the Shiny Bum Singers would be happy to be on your program. We are a well-known festival crowd-pleaser here, and remember being supported ourselves when new.

Sorry for taking up so much thread space, any responses maybe via PM to Canberra Chris?

Canberra Chris

I'd love to come Hawker, but if all goes to plan I shall be sans teeth that very weekend, after going four rounds with the dentist, and awaiting the arrival of dentures.

I have a sinking feeling that it will be time for Sidmouth before I'll be singing again.

Next year tho', I'll make a point of being there. I may well have a few more biting parodies to share.

Very best of luck to you this year

Oh, please don't misread me. I have assisted several fledgling festivals and events. Some have flourished others have not. Many times I and others like me have been lost in the shuffle as these events have taken off. Still, I'd do it again. And again! And again!
If you succeed, you will be overwhelmed in the coming years and even the best of intentions can get lost in all of it. I'm only trying to encourage you and offer a little advice.
Now, I have a studio to set up so I'm outa here!
Good luck with it all.

Jim Lad, those who have offered assistance will definately be the first on the list at next years event, what do you mean by bitten? I am really trying to make a go of this and prove to the powers that be that they should fund us next year, it seems to be working, we had the tourist board at the meeting last night, they are really keen fr next year and meetings for planning funding strategies are already in place. There will be a craft fair too next year, the local Chamber of Commerce are keen to get involved and things look positive. You never know, in a couple of years, when we have this thing really sussed, we may be able to bring you over from Vancouver Island! But for now, reality says we have to do it this way.
Thanks for the good luck wishes, they are really appreciated.
Cheers, Lucy

Mothy, the festival is a taster for next year, it is a low key event this year, in as much as it is fairly informal, there will be sessions and sings on Friday night, dancing round the town (if i can get any sides to confirm they are coming!) saturday morning, a concert Saturday afternoon and sessions around and about. Saturday night has a band at The Tree in in one room, with 2 other rooms available for music and singing. Sunday morning poossibly more dancing in the town, harp and pipe workshops in the afternoon, harp & pipe concert in the evening followed by a ceilidh. Monday survivors session till we collapse in a heap!
There is no money, we are not charging for tickets, but are charging to go into the concert and the ceilidh (Ceilidh £5.00 to include pasty! & Concert £2.00) And there will be a raffle to help cover expenses. There is a camp site here:http://www.efforddown.co.uk

and an overflow camp site at The Rugby Club.
Hope thats covered info for you!
Cheers, Lucy

No problem Muppitz. No one knows everywhere! It is in the West Country on the North coast, just up on the border, where England gives way to beautiful Cornwall. (To be fair to it, Devon is not a bad looking place either...) It's a couple of miles up the coast from Tintagel and Boscastle etc.

We really would like a few dance sides, I know its a tall ask when there is no money involved, butif there are any keen for a practise in a festival atmosphere, then please get in touch!

for what its worth, check out breezy who ran the St Albans Windward club - where george Papavgeris was resident and still has some connection - as he normally goes to padstow for a week at whit

he'll probably be down for may-day so get hawker to sound him out

He also used to run a folk club at the Summerleaze hotel in Bude before he was poached by the oss folk

he's booked for Folk on the moor later this year so he still does the occasional gig

George Papavgeris knows how to handle him

A Festival too far I fear.

Also it clashes with Chippenham which could be a problem for you.

Are there any UK musicians out there who are FREE ( in more ways than one ! ) this coming Whitsun weekend, viz. 25--28th May 2007 ?? It is hoped to Revive and Resurrect the moribund Bude Folk Festival next month. As it is necessary to convince the " Powers that Be " of its viability, performers ( AND festival attendees !! ) are needed, BUT --for the performers, there is virtually no budget available ( next year , perhaps ) --it"s a "chicken & egg " situation !!
SO--could ANY artistes, groups,ceilidh-bands,Morris sides, Appalachian teams, cloggers, rappers, lion-tamers or exhibitionists, who are NOT booked to play /perform / expose themselves at Whitsun next month , consider helping out with this Worthy Cause and coming along to perform just for the camaraderie and the craic----You"ll be famous for it ,I promise !! If you"ve nothing better to do ( and, let"s face it, what COULD be better than helping to re-establish another Folk Venue, in such a beautiful and friendly part of the country ??? )--Then PLEASE get in touch --preferably with "HAWKER " , as she lives a mere oggie- throw from lovely Bude, and I don"t !! If you can"t come yourselves, PLEASE tell your friends about us /it !! Thankyou for reading this !!.......Roger..
