We are hoping to sing the song, "St. George" which appears as track 3 on the Waterson:Carthy album "Holy Heathens and The Old Green Man." However, we are having some problems transcribing the second line of the fourth verse, and have had no luck googling for answers! We would be very grateful if anybody out there has any ideas what the line might be. Even better if we could find out some time before tomorrow evening....

Ta

Rebecca

It probably would help if you gave us the words you had, and we can try to figure it out. Could you supply that portion that you have?

'The like it was ne'er seen in England before', unless I've lost count of the verses (it's rather late at night here). Written by John Kirkpatrick, of course.

Actually, I think Waterson:Carthy re-worked the lyrics that John wrote - and John himself re-wrote the words from his own orginal.

Malcolm, you're a star!

I believe John Kirkpatrick's new album due out today has a recording, most likely his own reworked version, but not had a chance to get hold of it yet.

Thanks again

Rebecca

Holy Heathens and the Old Green Man lyrics online (on Garry Gillard's site).

The transcription is a good start for trying to listen but as the transcription has been made by a German there are still mistakes in it, for instance in the line Malcolm has posted.

Rebecca: Now that you have all the lyrics, please post them here. It will be a valuable addition to our collection.
