And I've followed John Peel both often and far
O'er the rasper fence and the gate and the bar
From Low Denton Holme to the Scratchmere Scar
When we vied for the brush in the morning


Anyone who lives in Cumbria, do these "Low Denton Holme" and "Scratchmere Scar" still exist? Are they identifiable landmarks?

It would be wonderful to visit them.

Denton Holme is on the edge of Carlisle. Low Denton Holme I don't know about. The original dialect version of the song had 'low Dentonhown' but that does seem to have been translated as low Denton Holme when it was anglicised.

Denton is by    Long Sowerby.
& Long Sowerby is by    Denton.

Scratchmere Scar is a few miles east of the A6 at Plumpton, midway between Penrith and Carlisle, in The Eden Valley. Info courtesy of Google.
