I'm doing a project on children's games and songs in Kent. Amonmg those 'collected' by Cecil Sharp and Lucy Broadwood, I came across a number 'collected' by Miss E. Chase at Crockham Hill, Deptford and Herstmonceux and submitted to Alice Bertha Gomme for her book published in 1894. There's nothing more to be found on the wonderful Steve Roud song index, so can anyone throw any light on who exactly this lady was?
