Subject: Green Valley?
From: lupacow@csource.net

I am looking for the lyrics and chording to a song that may contain the following phrases: "Back to that little old green valley far away......That's the dream that I'll be going back someday." I found it on an old cassette tape, I am unsure of the age or origin of the song. I suspect that it is an Irish folk song. The words provided may not match exactly and I am not sure if the original recorder of the song is male or female, however the recording I found was by a man. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou, in advance.

Marty Robbins did a version of it on his "Gunfighter Ballads" album. My father used to play it when I was a kid, and ever since I've always associated it with cowboy-type songs.

The lyrics to the song LITTLE GREEN VALLEY—which was recorded in 1928 by Carson Robison and Vernon Dalhart, and later by Marty Robbins—have been posted in the thread Lyr/Chords Req: Little Green Valley (C Robison).

However, I'm not sure this is the song that was wanted. There are several songs about little green valleys. I'll keep looking.

Never mind. I think it IS the one that was wanted. Although it's not Irish, the quotes match pretty well.

Little Green Valley

It's not hard to see just what's wrong me all th time
When I tell ya I'm homesick, lonesome an' sad
There's a deep regret I can never get off of my mind
Cause I went t' roamin' left the only home I ever had
I hear a mockin' bird down in th little green valley
He's singin' out his heart to welcome me
Someone waits by th garden gate down in th little green valley
When I get home again how happy I will be
Down by a little babbling brook, once more I'll wander
And in a shady nook, I'll dream the hours away
That's where I'll leave all my cares behind
Go where I know I'll find sunshine
Back to that little ole green valley, far away

All night long in my dreams I see a spot far away
Nestled in those hills in th land that I love
Stormy weather may come, but whether th sky is blue or gray
I keep dreamin' of sunlight, streamin from heaven above
I see a candlelight down in th little green valley
Where morning-glory vines are twinin' round th door
How, I wish I were there tonight, down in th little green valley
For then my homesick heart would trouble me no more
There is only one thought ever gives me consolation
An' that's th dream that I'll be goin' back someday
Now, ever night down upon my knees I pray th Lord'll please take me
Back to that little ole green valley, far away
