I frequented The Garrett while still in high school; one of our teachers would take a group of us on Friday nights. That must have been 1960-62. She sang Train to Morgentown which I loved and I've never found it from anyone else, does it have another name? I can still sing songs I learned from her then. Wonderful voice, sweet memories.

Also, does anyone have a current link to places I can purchase her music?

Find me on Facebook

Im guessing the last post is from a troll or at worst one of the less literate of our 'catters. Any chance a mod can delete it?

Cheers,

Terrea, BJ. and Sue had all moved to Vista, CA. they all ran a doughnut express at the fairs. B.J. passed away, then Sue passed, Terrea held on for quite a few years, I used to talk to her on the phone about once a month and then she passed...I believe it was June of last year. Check online (The Garret Coffeehouse.)Terrea had done 3 LP's. Terrea Lea at The Garret. Conversations of the Heart and Terrea Lea self titled.

I'm sad to report that Terrea Lea died on January 5, 2013, in Vista, California at the age of 90. See her obituary and sign the guest book at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/UTSanDiego/obituary.aspx?pid=162306900#fbLoggedOut

I started working at the Garret in 1961 as a dishwasher and soon moved up to waitress...Suzanne amd I were the only waitress for a long while.
I spoke with Terrea just recently...She is now in her 90s' and she lives in Vista, California. I started to go down to see her but only got as far as Los Altos to see Joan Baez. The California roads are in really bad condition...really bad! I'm from Oregon and was sorry I didn't see Terrea but glad to get back to Oregon where the roads and traffic are so much better. She attended the Unity Church for a long while and probaly sang there...I would think but don't really know.I have 3 of her albums, "Terrea Lea at the Garret", I got it while I worked there,"Conversations With The Heart" and "Terrea Lea self Titled". There used to be a Garret Web site but I haven't checked for it lately, I bought a coffee mug from it, it has a picture of Terrea playing her Guitaron it. The mug is white with a black & white photo...really nice! I was going to have her personally sign it and my one album that is not signed the other two are, if I had gotten there for my visit.
I think I'll check to see if the Garret web site is still up...
Hope some of this answers a few questions some of you have re: Terrea.
I slso have the CD but don't think they picked her best stuff. "Maria" was favorite and she did a better version of "The First Time " than Roberta Flack did.

I bought her CD a few years back. She and her partners were making Frappacinos long before Starbucks, I remember the Frozen Mocha machine running between songs and intermissions.

I was a regular at the Garret... performed there, also, when I needed work, waited tables and also did dishes out in the kitchen with her mother, Elizabeth. A few years ago, I spent the day with Terrea at her home down in Oceanside. PCH006@gmail.com

I saw the embracing comments regarding Terrea Lea, The Garrett, the commaraderie we shared, in an environment that is difficult to find today.

Thank you for the kind comments about the record I recorded, mixed, and produced "Terrea Lea at the Garrett", and yes, it was an amazing time and journey.

Stefan Wirz--I just visited your website...very nice!

You asked for some additional input on the albums. I have found some album dates you might be able to use:
terrea lea - 1970 (I have this LP)
Conversations with the Heart - ca. 1966
At the Garret - ca. 1961 (I have this LP)
Singing Guitar: Folk Songs - 1957

In addition to the albums I own as noted above, I have a copy of 'Folk Songs and Ballads'.
I note on the Garret website there is a CD available of many of her songs.

I just saw a picture of Jon Cutler on the Garret website.
Used to frequent the Garret at least once a month during the early sixties. It was inexpensive, warm, and Terrea's guitar and husky voice was entertainment enough. I have three albums she recorded, including 'Live at the Garret', the best one. There is also another album recorded in the late 60s or early 70s of then contemporary songs; I saw it in a thrift store once, but it was pretty abused so I passed on it.
It is good to know she is still with us.
Here's to you, Lady Balladeer!

I recently saw a copy of Terrea Lea Live at the Garret and, although I didn't know her, the album just resonated with an aura of importance and so I bought it.........well!! you all know the journey I am on. What an amazing piece of history and a fantastic album. I was in coffee shops in the 60's im Melbourne, Australia where I live and this work brings it so vividly back.......great days indeed. I am on the lookout for more. Love from Down Under

Terrea is alive and well, living in Southern California. You can learn more about her at The Garret Coffee House Web site. She also has a retrospective CD of songs taken from her vinyl albums available at The Garret's Record Store.

Yeah, I remember Terrea Lea. Patti, a friend of mine, had one of her records (Terrea Lea: Folk Songs & Ballads). Patti learned several songs from the record, and I learned them from Patti. Patti's living in Santa Cruz now. I've often wondered what became of Terrea Lea. Now I know. Too bad she's given up singing.

Terrea Lea today is one of the owners of 'The Donut Express' (see their website at http://www.donutexpress.com/news.asp)
'Lea put her guitar away more than 20 years ago and said she has no desire to sing today. 'I loved singing and entertaining people, but I got tired of it,' Lea said.'

I built a little Terrea Lea discography (http://www.wirz.de/music/leadsc.htm) which needs additional information ;-)

Great to see this wonderful artist's name mentioned! I'd once asked the same question of a person who was around in Southern California "when"--he said he'd heard that she'd passed on. But he gave me no guarantees that this was a fact, so there's always room for hope!

Do you happen to know how many albums she recorded? I have three.

Does anyone out there remember Terrea Lea? If so, does that person know what has happened to her? She once was a particular favorite of mine.--John
