Wonder if they'll record?

On last night's Tonight Show, the three did a number that Martin wrote. Neat tune and great playing. Martin did straight 3-finger style, Trischka and Fleck went way up the neck. I would've loved to hear another tune.

They have recorded together - Tony's new CD is "Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular " that features a number of banjo wizards. They were on the show to help promote the CD, but unfortunately I missed it!

I don't suppose that performance is archived anywhere? I love watching Martin perform.

That was fantastic! :) We've been listening to the CD in the shop and loving it, but it's so much more fun to see the three of them perform and play off each other.

Plus I loved Steve's crack about Yo-Yo Ma. That'll teach Dave to be a smartass *grin*

And, of course you are right, harpmolly. I had mistakenly said that he was on the Tonight Show (Jay Leno).

Hehehe...I didn't even catch that. I wasn't meaning to correct you, honest. ;)

Great stuff. I guess I'll have to rethink my answer to the question "How many banjos are too many?".

Does anyone happen to know who the guitar player and fiddler are?

I particularly liked that after the performance, Tony made a point of introducing the band.

Way to go Steve! I really loved the youtube video of Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Scruggs, Albert Lee and I think, Jerry Douglas at the same site. Steve was holding his own. There are a lot of staggeringly good musicians that play bluegrass!

Yes, thanks, John. I was wondering about them and the bass player, too.

Tony Trischka is the only one of the the three whose name I didn't know beforehand. (I suppose that indicates how little I know about contemporary bluegress!) And he, of course, is the "headliner," the peron whose album was being promoted. What a great performance, by all five musicians!

I saw this the night it was broadcast last week. Steve Martin had been characteristically funny earlier in the show, of course, and then did a nice job in the musical segment as well, as we all can see on YouTube.
