Subject: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: 282RA Date: 29 Apr 07 - 11:13 AM By AUDREY McAVOY, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 25 minutes ago SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The Army's new chief of staff says he wants to accelerate by two years a plan to increase the nation's active-duty soldiers by 65,000. The Army has set 2012 as its target date for a force expansion to 547,000 troops, but Gen. George Casey said Saturday that he has told his staff to have the soldiers ready earlier. "I said that's too long. Go back and tell me what it would take to get it done faster," he said in an interview with The Associated Press during a stop in Hawaii. Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: 282RA Date: 29 Apr 07 - 11:18 AM >>Defense Secretary Robert Gates in January said he was recommending to the president that the Army boost its active-duty soldiers by 65,000 to 547,000. Casey said about 35,000 of those additional soldiers are already in place.<< Does anyone in the military listen to anyone else. Gates says we need 65,000 (we need way more than that, folks) and then Casey says that half of them are already in place. HELLOOO? So do we need 65,000 or do we need 30,000??????? What is with this crap? Do they think if they keep throwing all kinds of numbers at us that we'll finally just give up and let have whatever they want? How can we win a war if we can't even make an accurate count of personnel when there's a goddamn shortage of them??? |

From: Bill D Date: 29 Apr 07 - 11:23 AM "Do they think if they keep throwing all kinds of numbers at us that we'll finally just give up and let have whatever they want?" currently, that's what they seem to think. We ALL know what it would take to get a 500,000 man army...a draft. |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: TRUBRIT Date: 29 Apr 07 - 04:56 PM Yes, and if there is a draft I am very happy that my three children are all dual nationals .... I will be paying for their tickets out of here. We own a small home in England -- a dear friend of mine recently asked me what was keeping us here rather than moving there...... We have a long term plan - half the year in UK, half in the US in about 8 years time but I want to do it on my schedule and plan -- I don't want to leave before my time because we do something as absurb as bring in the draft. But Bill is right -- if these numbers mean anything a draft must be round the corner....... |

Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: bubblyrat Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:30 PM It"s all rather academic, really. The USA could have 50 MILLION men and women under arms, but as long as they feed them on Lobster Thermidor, T-Bone steaks, and Marijuana, whilst simultaneously NOT pointing out the identification features of their allies' tanks and 'planes, they will NEVER be as good as the average guerrilla fighter from a third-world "banana republic". Sorry, but that"s the general feeling in most of the civilised world------I truly wish it were not so, believe me.( It wasn"t always thus ). |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: dianavan Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:38 PM Why do we need 65,000 more soldiers by 2012 or sooner? Is it because they already know that the war in the Middle East is going to drag on and on and on? Could it be that if they say they can't recruit enough soldiers, they will have to increase the number of Blackwater troops and other mercenaries? Could it be that a private military will be protecting the oil fields of Iraq? Why is this necessary? |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: Peace Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:41 PM Good points D'van. Good remarks and good questions. |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: GUEST,Peter Woodruff Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:47 PM The US government will rent troops from Blackwater silly! Peter |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: Rapparee Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:52 PM To try to put down the revolution? The US might very well need the additional troops in Southwest Asia (as it's called). We could strip the troops out of Europe and the Korean Pennisula to get them. Might not be a bad idea to close down shop in Europe -- the EU seems to be getting along okay and the Soviet Union isn't threatening Eastern Europe at the moment.... |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: GUEST,Peter Woodruff Date: 29 Apr 07 - 06:14 PM Rapaire, We are desparately trying to squelch a revolution by impeaching Cheney and Bush. Peter |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: Peace Date: 29 Apr 07 - 06:23 PM It would be really nice if the Democrats would get onside with impeachment. It seems to tick off Pelosi, however. |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: Rapparee Date: 29 Apr 07 - 06:46 PM Maybe she doesn't want to be President. She'd become prez if W and Dick were tossed. |
Subject: RE: BS: But where are they going to find them? From: 282RA Date: 29 Apr 07 - 10:47 PM Pelosi was pissing me off but she may have point. I don't think an impeachment would go anywhere right now. It would just end up making the dems look ineffectual as ever. So she might be wise not to let it get to the table. Not yet anyway. You wonder why the American people aren't demanding impeachments. |
