Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Joe Offer Date: 07 Nov 11 - 01:44 AM What I found most interesting are the liner notes from the Archive of Folk Song recordings. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Nov 11 - 06:58 PM 999 has been sending me interesting links for years. Today, he sent me this one: http://www.loc.gov/folklife/LP/AFS_L61_opt.pdf Turned out to be the liner notes for Archive of Folk Song LP #61, a collection of railroad songs. That inspired me to go to loc.gov and search for archife of folk song (singular). It's going to take me weeks to go through all the treasures I found! Thanks, 999!!! Look at this: How to do research in the Archive of Folk Culture -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Burke Date: 03 May 07 - 07:08 PM Googlization of all strikes again. There used to be a guided advanced search, now all you get is a single search box. Sheet Music Collections are here. Then use the search box. More Browse Options turned up some other alternatives. |
Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 02 May 07 - 07:58 PM Joe, I pretty well use what Mick Pierce suggests. I sometimes am flabbergasted, however, by what I miss. |
Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 02 May 07 - 04:05 AM This is a link that I find useful: Browse/Search The Music Collections. (It comes from the more detailed index page for AM: AM Collection Finder from the performing arts, music link) and you can select which collections to browse. A direct link there that I use a lot for searching is this one America Singing - 19C Song Sheets Mick |
Subject: RE: Library of Congress American Memory Collection From: Joe Offer Date: 02 May 07 - 01:57 AM One thing has bugged me about the American Memory Collection. They used to have a page that made it reasonably easy for me to search and find sheet music; but either they did away with that page, or I lost track of it. Since then, I've had to go through far too many search results to find what I'm looking for. But perhaps there's hope. The link Kat posted today led to a page that had a "help" link, and that Help page had a Search Help (click) link. So, now maybe I can study the Search Help and devise a reasonable way of finding things. Thanks, Kat. -Joe- |
