Subject: Background music to Mudcat From: Big Al Whittle Date: 04 May 07 - 09:29 AM I was just reading some threads this morning when I heard some sub classical music coming out of the computer headphones - it didn't sound too bad - so I put the headphones on. It was only as I closed down mudcat, I realised that I had another window open about the Spiderman movie and thats where the music came from. What silly sausage you are, Al! I said to meself! Then I thought that could be quite good - to have Jed Marum, Stitherum, George Papvageris, Jerry's gospel group, Bobert the bluesman, Alanabit, warbling away in the background while we read the threads.... well whaddaya think? |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Mr Happy Date: 04 May 07 - 09:51 AM Yes - good suggestion - after all lots other folk orientated sites such as Contemplator have it, as do lots folk club & festival pages http://www.contemplator.com/folk.html |

Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Amos Date: 04 May 07 - 10:09 AM C'mon, guys!! The Mudcat CDs have put Mudcat Music at your fingertips!!! Put 'em in the CD drive and bob's yer uncle!! Kendall, Jed, Mick, Mario, Mudlark, Genie, Dina, Rick Fielding, Tweed, and hundreds of others -- the songs come from all over the world. Truly ROCKIN', but in a folkie way. A |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 May 07 - 11:12 AM More like 'The end of the world as we know it' or more aptly... 'The lunatics have taken over the asylum'. LTS |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: muppitz Date: 04 May 07 - 11:28 AM It bugs the hell out of me when webistes have music that automatically starts especially when they don't give you the option of turning it off (Fylde FF webmaster, please take note!), I've normally got my music player on when I'm on the PC anyway! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Grimmy Date: 04 May 07 - 11:34 AM It also alerts your boss that you may not be dedicating 100% of your efforts into your work. Like right now ;-) |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Snuffy Date: 04 May 07 - 12:05 PM WLD Sounds OK in theory, but every time you log in you'll probably get some folk-nazi club organiser with his finger in his ear droning on for 78 verses about ploughboys and damsels. And I'll get something with lyrics that are extremely relevant to our modern condition, but I can't actually tell what they are because of a fiddle going like a buzz-saw and a VERY loud bass, and a few more amplified instruments. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Big Al Whittle Date: 04 May 07 - 01:36 PM you can always turn down the volume...anyway just a suggestion. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: treewind Date: 04 May 07 - 02:17 PM Snuffy - that gives me a great idea. We don't all have to listen to the same thing - all mudcatters with cookies will be identified so they can have their background music personalised. That way the scenario you describe and others like it can become a reality. Seriously, this would be an extravagant waste of Max's bandwidth and I wouldn't want my last donation to the Mudcat preservation coffers to be spent on it. And Amos is right - if anyone wants to listen to Mudcatters, get the CDs. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: alanabit Date: 04 May 07 - 02:50 PM At some sites, like Woven Wheat Whispers, for instance, you have the option of hearing snippets of the artists when you enter the site. You have to switch it on yourself though, so you can decide whether you want to hear the music or not. I have heard quite a lot of good stuff that way and I would be very happy to be introduced to more Mudcatters' CDs that way. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: katlaughing Date: 04 May 07 - 03:41 PM It's a neat idea, but like Amos says...the Mudcat CDs are great and easy to purchase. Though, I wouldn't mind a random pick of Mudcatters' music in the background. Then, too, a lot of Mudcatters have sound samples on their sites and we do have a Mudcatters' CDs Permathread. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: BTMP Date: 04 May 07 - 04:37 PM Please do not do this!!! If there's one thing I can't stand on a website, it is unsolicited audio and video streaming. This forum is one of the best websites I know - adding audio would not improve it, IMHO. -btmp |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Jim Lad Date: 04 May 07 - 04:41 PM Please don't! |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: kendall Date: 04 May 07 - 04:43 PM I tend to go a little crazy when I'm forced to listen to someone else's poor taste in muisic. I vote for silence. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: Big Al Whittle Date: 04 May 07 - 05:05 PM okay....forget I said it. I was just sharing a thought. And lets face it - how many of us have listened to all the people we talk to on mudcat. it was obviously an idea some people find offensive. |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: frogprince Date: 04 May 07 - 05:18 PM Ask me about it in a few weeks when I hope to have high speed 'net; in the meantime, don't do anything to make things load any slower on this #$* dialup! |
Subject: RE: Background music to Mudcat From: catspaw49 Date: 04 May 07 - 05:21 PM I'd be in total agreement with Amos except for the Uncle Bob bit. Amos, I have no idea what's the matter with your dumb ass, but whatever it is is no small thing......although your small thing is, of course, one of your problems. I don't know where in the hell you got the idea that Bob was my uncle but he ain't. The only Bob I do know is a real broke-dick mook much like yourself and I don't want you for my uncle either. Try to get a grip. Considering the size of your tool, tweezers are probably a necessity. Get some. Spaw |
