Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: julian morbihan Date: 05 May 07 - 03:33 AM We'll be there, as ever. Only missed years 2 and 3 out of the 35! Looking forward to seeing you all. A bientot Julian & Enid |

Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Mo the caller Date: 05 May 07 - 05:17 AM I have one complaint about Chippenham. Too much choice. Dances, singing, sessions, concerts. Or just buy an icecream (sorry, Lemonade) and sit in the sun watching others doing it. There was talk of an intermediate/beginners session this year. Has that been confirmed? And Mike is organising a series of callers workshops. So this year I'll need to be it 5 places a once instead of 3! |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 05 May 07 - 05:24 AM Well that's some of thw peeps I guessed would say they'll be there. Still a few more to fess up yet. Dave |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: GUEST Date: 05 May 07 - 05:37 AM Mary and I will be there. * Singing and playing somewhere (no details yet) * Leading an English tunes session at the Rose and Crown barn (a job we've inherited from the late and lamented Mick Brooks) * Apparently co-leading a song workshop entitled something like "reconstruction or desecration?". It wasn't our idea... * putting in an appearance at Tony and Pearl's singaround at the Cause, if we possibly can. * Doing the CHARM show somewhere. * Hopefully learning to identify a few Mudcatters we don't know yet. Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Mo the caller Date: 05 May 07 - 12:19 PM The Cheshire group The Time Bandits are booked, and worth seeing. Their website says "The Time Bandits is a Chester-based band, which performs Anglo-European folk and early renaissance dance music." They are usually on at Chester festival, and in 2005 they won the open mike at a Bridgenorth(?) so got a booking last year at Shrewsbury. |

Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 May 07 - 05:47 PM I've just heard from Bob Berry that my singarounds will be running in the Cause again - but at a later time, 2-4, and for a change not head to head with the Essential Sing. So this means I will be able to get to the Admiral's singarounds for the first time in several years! Hope to see/ hear some of you in the Cause too. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 13 May 07 - 08:00 PM Hey Kitty that will work out very well. We can do both session that way (or at least most of both) See you there Dave |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 May 07 - 04:13 AM Hey Skipy - Manitas has been known to wear a dress in public, his is brown and orange. I tell you this so you don't wear yours as well... the only thing worse than wearing an identical dress is two guys wearing identical dresses. LTS |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Saro Date: 14 May 07 - 04:53 AM CMR will be there... we're doing a harmony workshop and the CHARM show with Mary and Anahata (with an exciting new ingredient - Linda Van Eyken dancing!!) but not sure what else. Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: GUEST,Valmai Goodyear - cookie vanished again ... Date: 15 May 07 - 05:22 AM 'Mo the caller wrote: There was talk of an intermediate/beginners session this year. Has that been confirmed?' Yes, as Bryan says above. Spare Parts are doing English tunes practice sessions on Sunday morning at 10.30 a.m - noon and on Monday morning at the same time, venue to be announced. We're also running our usual concertina part-playing sessions on Saturday morning (10.30 a.m - noon ) Saturday afternoon (2.30 - 4.00 ) and Monday afternoon (2.30 - 4.00 )and performing in a couple of places as well. If you'd like the music in advance for the English tunes practice sessions or the concertina part-playing sessions please email me your postal address off-list and make it clear which sort of music you want. Tootle pip, Valmai (valmai. goodyear @ aol. com - remove spaces to use the address) |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Leadfingers Date: 15 May 07 - 03:40 PM If any one wants to lift a glass to Maryrrf and me on Saturday or Sunday , we will lift a glass to you from Virginia ! I am escaping to USA for a couple of weeks ! |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Sue the Borderer Date: 15 May 07 - 05:31 PM I'll be there! Dancing with Exmoor on Sat and Sun. Good to hear that HergaKitty and the Admiral won't clash this year. Hope to get into both - but probably only briefly (unless it rains.....) 'Herbaceous Border' will also be on at some point. I'll post again when I have details of when and where so that anyone who wants to come and dance or play knows where to find us. Are there any plans for singing in the evening/ late night? I seem to remember it was really hard work in the pub on the corner last year. (Forget what it's called) Sue |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Polly Squeezebox Date: 15 May 07 - 05:44 PM Sue - the pub on the corner is the Three Crowns. Yes, it gets crowded - but the welcome is always warm. I think thanks are due to Bob and Gill Berry for taking note of requests made through Mudcat last year that the organised song sessions don't clash. Therefore, we don't have to make the choice this year about whether to support Herga Kitty or Mr & Mrs. Admiral, but can enjoy both. |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Herga Kitty Date: 15 May 07 - 06:32 PM It's going to be interesting, because both the Admiral's and my sessions have been well supported, to see how the change works out! I'm still hoping and intending that anyone who turns up wanting to sing will get a song at the Cause. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Mo the caller Date: 16 May 07 - 02:11 AM This thread about slow sessions also suggested "Subject: RE: slow/learning sesions From: ConcertinaChap - PM Date: 30 May 06 - 06:18 PM With Valmai's agreement I am talking to Bob Berry about adding another session to the Chippenham roster. This springs from developments at our own session at Bradford on Avon, where some of the less experienced members started meeting an hour earlier to practice playing tunes more slowly, but they did so following more-or-less normal session ettiquette. So I want to run a slow session with a few ground rules, along the lines of 1) G and D (and relative minors) only 2) well known English tunes 3) played not too fast. The idea is to allow people the room to practice jumping in with a tune (no easy thing to do if you haven't done it before) in an atmosphere less 'threatening' than the wondrous session in the Rose and Crown barn. I think George Garside has done something similar at a couple of festivals. If it comes off then with the Spare Parts teaching sessions, my sessions and the main sessions in the Rose and Crown barn we should have a short but complete course in playing in English sessions. Chris" That was what I was wondering about. Will certainly be at Spare Parts "learn the tunes". |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: TheSnail Date: 16 May 07 - 07:39 AM Could be an interesting experience for us in Spare Parts as well. Sessions round our way tend to be run on a "taking turns round the room" basis so we aren't used to "jumping in". Bryan |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: muppitz Date: 16 May 07 - 04:40 PM Anyone know how ticket sales are going? I've got nothing on that weekend and have nothing to look forward to but a big slice of boredom, but it'll depend how finances are closer the time as to whether I can come or not! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: julian morbihan Date: 18 May 07 - 05:01 AM You should not have a problem with getting a ticket. The camping and hall spaces is not as limited as many years ago so the cut of point for sales is pretty high. Some of the events may have to have house full signs so, as ever, the motto is "don't be late". For those who camp and have a delicate sense of smell the good news is that the meat factory by the campsite has closed. The bad news for Chippenham is that the 300 jobs it provided have moved to Scotland. Julian |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Hovering Bob Date: 18 May 07 - 06:07 AM Helen and I will be there with Magic (The 'grey' greyhound, now recovered from her operation.) If you've not had the experience of seeing Skipy in a dress don't miss him, and THROW HARD! Bob |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 18 May 07 - 08:49 AM "If you've not had the experience of seeing Skipy in a dress don't miss him, and THROW HARD!" Oh I have, I have and I will, I will :-) Dave |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Schantieman Date: 18 May 07 - 09:36 AM I shan't be there this year for various reasons, chiefly sailing in Scotland the following day. However, I believe Chester is the same weekend? Hope you all have fun, and sing a song for me in the Cause. :-) Steve |
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Festival From: Mr Red Date: 18 May 07 - 09:40 AM Can't seem to get a handle on ceilidh/bands website is understandably accurate (per se) but not over-informative - they sell programmes don't they? Anyone with bands/days/times I can put it on the cresby.com Free publicity is worth a bit more than you pay for it! I would be there early if I didn't have root canal treatment to look forward to. Just don't make me laugh on Fri. |
