The tape includes about a dozen songs. All the songs are Scottish Gaelic. The choir is a group of young girls who had sung together a lot during high school. Among the young ladies in the group are Heather Rankin of the Rankin Family, and Rita and Mary Rankin who are distantly related and have their own recordings out.

Contact Linda, and she can give more information on ordering up the tape. IT is NOT available on CD.

Oh I forgot to mention. There IS a beautiful version of the whole song on a tape called Duanag Mhabu. The tape was done in the late 80's, early 90s. It was a group of young ladies from Mabou High School on Cape Breton. Several of those girls went on to become performers on their own or in other groups. Heather Rankin, Rita and Mary Rankin to name some of those. If you're interested in that tape, I'll get the information on who supplies it.

Bruce is correct, it is an old song. There are two variants of the tune, one of which is from Skye. I haven't heard specifically about the origins, but perhaps Rosemary McCormack at B&R Heritage Enterprises. They have e-mail at the web-site.

Yes, the Rankins did a couple of the verses (there are 4 that I have at my site), as part of a medley. It is certainly a beautiful song.

Moffat's 'The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Highlands', merely says 'Gaelic Words old', and gives those, tune, and a metrical translation by Henry Whyte.

Hello, I picked up this song a couple of days ago at Barry Taylor's Lyrics Site: http://www3.islandnet.com/~btaylor/homepage.htm It is in Scottish Gaelic and means literally "My eye is longing for you." Anyway, I would like to know if anyone knows the origin of this song. Barry thought it originated on the island of Skye and said that the Rankins recorded it.
