I have decided to leave Mudcat.

I a moving to a different music forum. It is geared to Uk users and is a UK Folk and Acoustic Music Forum. I am fed up with having to deal with people such as Countess Richard and Richard Bridge. There is without doubt, no control over flaming on Mudcat and that is a shame.
Apart from the odd person, I have enjoyed my stay at Mudcat very much and it is with sadness that I am taking this action. However until such times as their is more control over what members can do and say, I will stay away.

Many thnks to the moderators who do there best to control the forum.

Maybe some of the very nice mudcatters who I have got to know will come over to this forum and strike up some nice and friendly chats. I do hope so.

The rules are

Having said that: Your submissions are usually friendly & informative. This is probably the first instance, I have seen where you've maybe crossed the line yourself. An olive branch to the two you've mentioned, wouldn't be a bad idea.

Kitty - I do love Mudcat, but unfortunatly I am used to forums that keep a very tight grip on flaming of which I am guilty of, but only when I have been flamed. Any way I do hope I get to meet you one day - Breezy & George speak highly of you.

Drop in here and lurk, even if you don't feel like posting, Villan.

Myself, I never worry too much about the way people get a bit unpleasant from time to time here - it always seems to die down. No doubt our friendly clones play a significant part in that - there are different ways of moderating a forum, and the Mudcat is in fact moderately moderated. But I prefer a place where we can talk about everything and not feel it's got to be on topic - and also the fact that it's not particularly geared towards the UK, or for that matter the USA or anywhere else.

And there's a good few people I'd really miss, and remarkably few I'd enjoy missing. (And the two you mention wouldn't be among them, even if they can get a bit stroppy at times.)

I joined Mudcat several years ago under the pseudonym that, inexplicably, so many peeps fail to understand (and it's so OBVIOUS) in order to defend a young performer who is now top of the game.
He was coming under so much flak (a role now apparently inherited by me).
All I can say is that if you have something to say, stay.
If not, well . . .

I never quite understand why anyone would leave because they don't like a couple of other members....especially since the worst offenses ARE now being deleted & edited. If I really can't stand someone, I mostly ignore them. If this were all 'in person' and I had to physically avoid someone, it would make sense that if the 'offender' was allowed in, I might have to go....but in here it is relatively easy to ignore those I don't like without expecting management to censor them FOR me.

I have been here over 10 years, and the worst offenders are either gone or reformed...and I'm still here.

The place is what you make it...

The other place sounds interesting, but kinda like a 'gated community', which I would NOT enjoy living in.

Hi Les, sorry you have decided to go, I understand your reasons, at times Mudcat turns into mudsling and people get hurt. I hoe that you do drop in and lurk. I try to avoid conflict and like others ignore flamers, trolls and offensive comments, I have made some amazing friends here from all over the world! and would find it almost impossible to leave. I wish you - and your family well. It has been good knowing someone who shares similar challenges as a parent!

I am very sad to be lumped together with C**ntess Richard. She seems by and large to be another subscriber to the idea that those of us who may be ordinary should be excluded from performing folk music. But, frankly, the cited reasons for leaving do not add up.

My disagreement with you was not conducted in flaming terms - at least not by me. Contrast your most recent dispute with the C**ntess. It also related to a central topic for this forum - whether your self professed subscription to excellence removed your preferred manifestation from being folk.

Also by way of contrast, one of the main things about your preferred bolthole seems to be that it requires real names. Well, shock horror, I use mine here, unlike most. I am accountable for my views.

Even more ironically, I tend to the view that I was a supporter of yours in your recent spat with the C**ntess.

It looks more to me as if you require mindless approbation and adulation. I don't provide that, neither does the C**ntess, and it is not a thing you can properly require.

Totally understandable. Earlier in the month, I was weighing up leaving also, in fact its still in the balnce.

I was also sorry when Divis went. Its exactly the same scenario.

These people who cannot grasp that there shades of opinion on some matters and that people with a different set of experiences to your self have different insights - well, they make their presence on mudcat an absolute bloody misery for people they don't agree with. The vehemence, the moral certainty, the sheer bloody ignorance and indifference to how other peoples' lives have worked out can be utterly breathtaking in its insensitivity.

Les's contribution to what he see as the folk community through the Faldingworth Club has been immeasurable. No one has the right to negate it - or say that it isn't Folk Music - cos I say so! Or its not English traditional, cos its not something I value.

Its in England at this historical point in time and its what some artists wish to hand down.

You may disagree - but you really haven't got a licence to exercise your talent for abuse and snotty superiority. And you should be ashamed for being hurtful to very decent guy.

I will e honest. I joined the other forum. I said hello in the newbies section.

Then I posted about FL in the section that promoted muisc, clubs etc and put links. I then posted about YB2 and did links and I posted about this Saturday at FL. I beleived I was allowed to do that.
Hoever it seems I wasn't and tried to apologise, but was banned as a spammer.

So Skipy you were right.

However it still doesn't get over the attitude of Countess Richard who seems to slag almost every person that posts off and gets away with it - why? She incites decent members into flaming her back.

Oh sorry to the person that wondered what flaming was in England. It is saying insulting things about people. I am guilty of that, but only by responding to people who flame me. I do not flame in the normal circumstances.

Les, I've considered going too. So far, I'm still trying. Some answers would be nice, but I doubt we'll ever get them.

Why a few have troll/spam/flame priviliges but others don't. We know why Help was closed, but will it ever be back? I've been on the butt end of some of the Countess' posts, but blew it off. Then there was Mad Lizze. At least she seems gone again.

If you have been flamed, personally attacked, etc. let Joe Offer or one of the clones know about it. We do our best, but sometimes we miss them.
